CSIR NEERI Project Scientist-II Recruitment 2026: Overview

Council of Scientific and Industrial Research - National Environmental Engineering Research Institute (CSIR-NEERI) is engaging a Project Scientist-II for an environmental study of the Okhamandal region around TCL’s industrial activities at Mithapur, Gujarat. The project belongs to the Air Quality Management Division, and the advertised posting is at Nagpur. This is a project contract linked to the study’s needs and funding.

Service Conditions and Caveats

  • Project-linked appointment: your engagement ends with the project. Taking up this assignment does not give you a claim to a regular post at CSIR or CSIR-NEERI, either now or after the contract ends.
  • Initial offer: the institute will issue the appointment for the period supported by available funds. A longer project duration does not automatically mean that your first offer will cover the whole period.
  • Extensions: a review committee will assess your performance before recommending an extension. Any continuation also depends on available project funding and the institute’s need for your work.
  • Changes in tenure: the assignment may be extended or shortened according to the project’s duration, performance requirements and your conduct. The notice does not promise uninterrupted engagement throughout the study.
  • Overall service ceiling: service across CSIR project appointments is subject to the six- or seven-year limit that applies under the cited CSIR provisions. Previous project service therefore matters when the institute checks the permitted engagement period.
  • Additional openings: the notice mentions possible further positions linked to funding. These are anticipated openings rather than confirmed posts, and appointments would be made from the waiting list.
  • Confidentiality: you must sign an undertaking protecting project findings and associated intellectual property. This condition applies to the information you handle during the research assignment.
  • Moving between projects: if you are already engaged on another project, the competent authority must accept your resignation before the new engagement can begin. The new appointment cannot simply overlap with the previous project engagement.
  • Leaving the assignment: either side may end the engagement with one month’s notice. If you leave without serving that notice, one month’s pay may be due instead, unless the competent authority reduces or waives it.
  • Accommodation: you must arrange your own place to stay during the project. The institute does not promise accommodation as part of this offer.
  • No automatic promotion: the notice rules out upgrading a project staff member within the same or another project. You must make a fresh application for a different position and go through the relevant process.
  • Joining: follow the joining period stated in your offer letter after completing the required pre-appointment formalities. The institute can withdraw an offer if it finds discrepancies in your application.
