ISI Research Associate Recruitment 2026: Overview
Indian Statistical Institute (ISI) is recruiting a Research Associate for its Theoretical Statistics and Mathematics Unit, Kolkata. The appointment combines teaching and research in statistics or mathematics within the unit. This is a contractual research appointment, with the associate category decided according to your qualifications and experience.
Service Conditions and Caveats
- Initial tenure: Your appointment starts with a one-year term from joining. Extension depends on your performance and the availability of funds, and the institute may also end the appointment earlier.
- Maximum term: A satisfactory performance review can support continuation, but the research associateship cannot run beyond two years under this notice.
- Future employment: The appointment gives you no right to a permanent job at ISI or to continued work on another project. Keep this condition in mind when considering the engagement.
- Accommodation: The notice links the housing arrangement to whether the institute can provide hostel accommodation. The applicable housing allowance is recorded separately with the pay details.
- Travel: ISI will not reimburse travel or daily expenses for attending the interview or joining the post.
- Appointment decision: The institute may decide not to fill the position. Meeting the minimum requirements alone does not create a claim to appointment.

Eligibility Criteria
Minimum Qualification
PhD in Statistics or Mathematics with at least one publication in a Science Citation Index (SCI) journal. Candidates who have submitted their PhD thesis may also apply.
Age Limit
Up to 35 years (as on 27 Oct 2026)
Age Relaxation:
- SC/ST/OBC/Women/PwBD: Usual relaxation as stated in the notification; no numerical period specified.
- Exceptional research candidates: Age may be relaxed for exceptionally bright candidates with relevant research experience.
