CSIR NEERI Project Associate-I Recruitment 2026: Overview

CSIR-National Environmental Engineering Research Institute (CSIR-NEERI), the Nagpur laboratory of the Council of Scientific and Industrial Research, wants a Project Associate-I (PAT-I) for an Environmental Impact Assessment (EIA) study on the planned expansion of a chemical fertilizer plant at Paradeep, Odisha (project code CNP-3035). The study is led by Dr. P.V. Nidheesh, Scientist-F (EIAAP). This is a temporary project engagement that lasts only as long as the project does, and your place of posting is CSIR-NEERI, Nagpur.

The role suits a post-graduate in zoology, freshwater ecology, aquatic biology or biodiversity who enjoys field work, sample analysis and data work. Your pay depends on whether you have cleared a national-level test such as CSIR-UGC NET or GATE, so keep that certificate ready. The institute also notes that up to three people may finally be engaged if funds allow, with the extra picks taken from the waiting list.

Service Conditions and Caveats

• Project-bound job: The engagement ends with the project and gives you no claim to a regular CSIR or CSIR-NEERI post. It can be extended or cut short depending on the project's length and your performance or conduct.
• Tenure ceiling: Your total time on CSIR contract research projects, at NEERI or any other CSIR lab, cannot go beyond six or seven years under CSIR OM No. 5-1(342)/2017-PD.
• Result must be out: Final-semester and result-awaited candidates cannot apply or sit the interview; you need at least a provisional certificate for the M.Sc.
• Experience counting: Experience counts only from the date you got the minimum qualification. Thesis or dissertation work and time spent on a higher degree do not count.
• Funding and extension: The first offer covers only the period for which funds are available. A review committee checks your work before any extension.
• No upgrade: Project staff are not moved up in the same or a new project; you must apply afresh and clear a new interview.
• Switching projects: If you already work on another project, your resignation there must be accepted before you can join.
• Confidentiality: You sign an undertaking to keep project findings and related intellectual property confidential.
• Notice period: Either side can end the engagement with one month's notice; you can also pay one month's salary instead of serving notice.
• Accommodation: You arrange your own stay in Nagpur; HRA is paid as per rules.
• Joining: You must join within the time given in the offer letter after the medical examination and character verification.
