The Council of Scientific and Industrial Research - Central Salt and Marine Chemicals Research Institute (CSIR-CSMCRI), Bhavnagar has announced 4 Project Associate-I openings under a MoES-funded project titled "Sustainable macroalgae cultivation using biotechnological approaches for edible and food industry applications." Postings are at two locations — MARS, Mandapam (Tamil Nadu) and CSIR-CSMCRI headquarters at Bhavnagar (Gujarat). These are purely temporary, project-linked positions and do not confer any right to absorption in CSIR. Selection is through a walk-in/online interview — no written exam.

Who Can Apply?

For Post Code 01 (Mandapam, Tamil Nadu):

• Qualification: Master's / Integrated Master's in Marine Science, Marine Biology, Marine Biology and Oceanography, Marine Biotechnology, Oceanography, Oceanography and Coastal Area Studies, Biotechnology, Microbiology, Botany, Plant Biology, Plant Biotechnology, Biochemistry, Zoology, Fisheries Sciences, Aquaculture, or Environmental Science from a recognized university OR Bachelor's Degree in Technology (B.Tech) in Biotechnology from a recognized university
• Desirable: Experience in seaweed taxonomy, Ulva cultivation, seaweed cultivation in tanks, or seaweed collection

For Post Code 02 (Bhavnagar, Gujarat):

• Qualification (1 post): Master's / Integrated Master's in Microbiology from a recognized university
• Qualification (1 post): Master's / Integrated Master's in Botany from a recognized university
• Desirable: Experience in handling algal samples, knowledge of biochemical profiling, and sample preparation for analytical instruments such as HPLC and GC-MS

Students appearing in the final year of their essential qualifying degree are not eligible to apply.

Age Limit

• Maximum age: 35 years as on the last date of receipt of application (4 May 2026)
• Age Relaxation: As per CSIR/Institute norms for SC/ST/OBC/PwBD candidates

Salary

• Rs. 31,000 + HRA per month — for candidates who have qualified CSIR-UGC/ICAR/ICMR NET (including lectureship/assistant professorship) or GATE, or national-level examinations conducted by Central Government departments like DBT/DST or their agencies
• Rs. 25,000 + HRA per month — for all other candidates
• House Rent Allowance (HRA) is payable as per Government of India/CSIR norms
• No TA/DA will be provided for attending the interview.

Selection Process (No Written Exam)

Selection is in 2 stages:

1. Application Screening: Submitted applications are screened and shortlisted by a selection committee. Interview details are sent to shortlisted candidates by email.
2. Interview (Hybrid Mode): Post Code 01 — in-person interview at MARS, Mandapam, Tamil Nadu. Post Code 02 — online interview.
