Bombay High Court is hiring 2 Mali/Madatnis (Gardener-cum-Helper) for its Original Side Establishment in Mumbai, on a permanent basis. Bombay High Court Mali/Madatnis Recruitment 2026 - 2 Posts

The Registrar of the Bombay High Court's Original Side has invited applications from eligible candidates for 2 Mali/Madatnis (Gardener/Helper) posts, to prepare a select list of eligible candidates for future vacancies too. This is treated as an isolated post with no promotion avenue attached, so keep that in mind before applying. Candidates who can maintain gardens, lawns and trees, and who are comfortable with manual gardening work, should apply. After the last date, the court will scrutinise all applications and prepare a shortlist of eligible candidates for the further selection stages.

Who Can Apply?

  • Citizenship: You must be an Indian citizen.
  • Qualification: You must have passed Class 4 (4th standard).
  • Language: You must be able to read, write and speak Marathi.
  • Experience: You need at least 3 years of experience maintaining gardens, lawns, plants and trees.
  • Domicile: You should hold a Maharashtra Domicile Certificate.
  • As per the Maharashtra Civil Services (Declaration of Small Family) Rules, 2005, you should not have more than 2 children born on or after 28 March 2006.
  • This is an isolated post — there is no promotional avenue attached to it.

Age Limit

  • Open category: 18 to 38 years.
  • Age Relaxation: Backward class candidates can apply up to 43 years.
  • If you are already a judicial or Government employee, the upper age limit does not apply to you.

Salary

  • You will get a pay scale of Rs. 16,600 to Rs. 52,400 per month (Pay Level S-3).
  • You will also get Dearness Allowance and other allowances as per Maharashtra Government rules.

Application Fee

  • All candidates must pay Rs. 1,000 as the application fee.
  • Payment mode: Demand Draft in favour of "Bombay High Court Original Side".
  • The fee is non-refundable. Applications without the fee will not be considered.

Selection Process

The Bombay High Court will select candidates in 3 stages, for a total of 50 marks:

  1. Preliminary Test (on garden and plant maintenance): 30 marks, with a minimum qualifying mark of 15.
  2. Physical Fitness Test: 10 marks.
  3. Personal Interview: 10 marks.

If you fail to qualify in the preliminary test, you will not be considered for the rest of the selection process. You must arrange your own travel to attend the physical test and interview — no travel allowance is paid. The schedule for all stages will be published on the Bombay High Court's official website. The Administrative Officer, Court, Original Branch, Mumbai holds the sole right to decide the shortlisting criteria and final selection.

Responsibilities

  • Maintain the court's gardens, lawns and green spaces
  • Water, prune and care for plants and trees regularly
  • Handle basic gardening tools and equipment safely
  • Assist with the cleaning and upkeep of outdoor court premises
  • Report plant diseases or damage to the maintenance staff
  • Support other helper duties assigned by the establishment

Exam Pattern

The preliminary test checks your practical knowledge of garden and plant maintenance. It carries 30 marks, and you need a minimum of 15 marks to qualify for the next stage.

After that, there is a Physical Fitness Test worth 10 marks and a Personal Interview worth 10 marks. The total selection process is out of 50 marks.
