High Court of Bombay at Goa District Judge Recruitment 2026 - 1 Post
The High Court of Bombay at Goa has issued Advertisement No. HCB/GOA/DJ-25%/2025/2026/642 dated 08 May 2026 for the post of District Judge by nomination (25%) in the State of Goa. The recruitment will prepare a merit list of one candidate and a wait list of one candidate. The selection is based on the Goa Judicial Service Rules, 2013, as amended till 2024, and the related amendments approved by the High Court.
This is a senior judicial post for experienced advocates, public prosecutors, government advocates and eligible serving judicial officers. Who Can Apply?
- Citizenship: You must be a citizen of India.
- Qualification: You must hold a Degree in Law.
- Advocate experience: You must be practising as an Advocate in the High Court of Bombay or courts subordinate to it for a continuous period of at least 7 years as on 08 May 2026.
- Alternative experience: Public Prosecutor, Additional/Assistant Public Prosecutor, Government Advocate, Government Pleader and qualifying Judicial Officer service can be counted as stated in the advertisement.
- Law Clerk experience: Work as a Law Clerk or Judicial Research Assistant after provisional enrolment/registration as an Advocate can also be counted as per the notice.
- Konkani: You need enough knowledge of Konkani to speak, read, write and translate Konkani to English and English to Konkani.
- Marathi: You need enough knowledge of Marathi to speak, read, write and translate Marathi to English and English to Marathi.
Age Limit
- Age is counted as on the date of publication of advertisement, 08 May 2026.
- Minimum age: 35 years.
- Maximum age for most candidates: 45 years.
- Maximum age for persons with disabilities and/or backward communities: 48 years.
- One-time relaxation: In-service Judicial Officers of the Goa Judicial Service who have crossed the normal upper age limit may get the one-time relaxation described in the notice, subject to the Supreme Court directions mentioned there.
Salary
- Pay scale: J-5 [Rs. 1,44,840 - Rs. 1,94,660] per month.
- You will also get other allowances as admissible under the applicable rules.
- The selected candidate has to execute a bond of Rs. 2,00,000 to serve for 3 years from the date of joining.

Selection Process
The selection has written examination and viva voce stages. The preliminary examination may be held if the Recruiting Authority considers it necessary.
- Preliminary Written Examination (if held): Objective type multiple choice paper for 100 marks. It is used for shortlisting and its marks are not counted in final selection.
- Final Written Examination - Paper I: Civil Law paper for 100 marks, duration 3 hours, medium English.
- Final Written Examination - Paper II: Criminal Law paper for 100 marks, duration 3 hours, medium English.
- Viva Voce: 50 marks. Candidates generally need at least 50% in each final written paper to reach viva voce; backward community and PwD candidates need at least 45%.
- Final Merit: Final selection is based on the marks in the final written examination and viva voce.

Responsibilities
- Hear and decide civil and criminal matters assigned to the District Judge court
- Manage judicial proceedings in line with the Goa Judicial Service Rules and High Court directions
- Write judgments, orders and procedural directions with clear legal reasoning
- Supervise court work, records and case progress within the assigned jurisdiction
- Conduct hearings fairly and maintain courtroom discipline
- Follow administrative and reporting requirements of the High Court of Bombay at Goa
- Ensure timely disposal of cases while protecting due process and legal rights
Eligibility Criteria
Minimum Qualification
Degree in Law with at least 7 years of continuous practice as an Advocate in the High Court of Bombay or subordinate courts, or qualifying Public Prosecutor / Government Advocate / Judicial Officer experience as per the advertisement.
Required Skills

Exam Pattern
The District Judge selection has written examination and viva voce stages for a total final assessment based on Final Written Examination + Viva Voce.
Exam Stages
