Babasaheb Bhimrao Ambedkar University (BBAU), Lucknow — a Central University accredited 'A++' Grade by NAAC — has announced recruitment for 1 Research Assistant on an ICHR (Indian Council of Historical Research), New Delhi-funded project in the Department of History, Ambedkar School of Social Sciences. The project is titled 'Archaeological Investigation and Explorations of Ancient Caves of Gaya-Rajgir-Jehanabad region and their References in Buddhist and Brahmanical literature'. The appointment is for one year, subject to review at six months. Who Can Apply?

Mandatory Qualification

  • Degree: Master's degree in History / Ancient Indian History, Culture & Archaeology (A.I.H.C.) / Archaeology from a recognised university with at least 55% marks (5% relaxation for SC/ST candidates, i.e., 50% marks).
  • Additional Requirement: You must have cleared the National Eligibility Test (NET) conducted by UGC or CSIR, or a UGC-recognised equivalent test like SLET/SET — OR you must have been awarded a PhD in the relevant subject.

Desirable Qualifications

  • Good understanding of field archaeology, art, and architecture
  • Strong English writing skills
  • Computer knowledge

Salary

  • Consolidated salary of Rs. 17,500 per month
  • This is a project-based contract appointment for one year (reviewed at six months)

Selection is through a Walk-in Interview — there is no written exam:

Responsibilities

  • Assist the principal investigator in archaeological field surveys and cave explorations in the Gaya-Rajgir-Jehanabad region
  • Collect, document, and organise field data, artefacts, and photographic evidence from excavation sites
  • Review and analyse Buddhist and Brahmanical literature references related to the project
  • Prepare research notes, field reports, and progress reports as required by the project
  • Maintain an organised record of all project documents, data, and correspondence
  • Assist in literature reviews, bibliographic work, and drafting sections of the final project report
  • Coordinate with ICHR and other stakeholders as directed by the project lead

There is no written exam for this post. Selection is through a Walk-in Interview conducted by the Department of History, BBAU, Lucknow.

  • Stage 2 — Walk-in Interview: Shortlisted candidates will be called for an in-person interview. Interview date will be communicated separately.
