AMC Deputy Chief Officer (Fire) Recruitment 2026: Overview
Ahmedabad Municipal Corporation (AMC) is filling Deputy Chief Officer (Fire) posts in its Fire and Emergency Services Department under Advertisement No. 04/2026-27. This is a Class II officer post that sits just below the Chief Fire Officer, so you will command large fire and rescue operations and help run the fire service of one of India's biggest cities. AMC released this drive together with its Chief Officer and Sahayak Sub Officer advertisements, which means the city is filling gaps at every level of the fire brigade at once.
The post suits experienced fire officers who already hold a Divisional or Station Fire Officer role in a government, municipal or PSU fire service. You can qualify either with a general degree plus the Divisional Officer's Course from the National Fire Service College (NFSC), Nagpur, or with a B.E./B.Tech in Fire or Fire and Safety, or a B.Sc (Fire). Serving officers of AMC's own fire department have a separate route based on Institution of Fire Engineers qualifications and long service.
Service Conditions and Caveats
- Probation: Direct recruits stay on probation for two years.
- Divisional Officer's Course: If you join through the fire engineering degree route without the DO Course, you must complete it at NFSC Nagpur or an approved institute within two years of appointment. Probation can be extended by one year if you miss it for reasons beyond your control, and time lost because the department did not send you is not counted.
- Already done the course? If you completed the Divisional Officer's Course before selection, you do not have to repeat it.
- AICTE note: If your fire engineering course is not approved by AICTE, the in-service DO Course condition applies to you.
- AMC fire staff route: In-house candidates qualify with graduateship of the Institution of Fire Engineers (UK or India), the NFSC advanced diploma (DO Course) or AMIFireE London, plus matriculation and long service in a city fire brigade. They must learn Gujarati within two years if they do not know it.
- Eyesight: If you wear glasses, you must still be able to carry out practical fire drills without them.
- Computer knowledge (CCC+): You can apply without the certificate, but you must pass the computer test (CCC+ for Class I and II posts) before appointment or within one year of joining.
- Language: You need adequate knowledge of Gujarati or Hindi or both.
- Reservation for Gujarat origin only: SC, ST, SEBC and EWS benefits go only to candidates of Gujarat origin, and reserved candidates applying against an unreserved seat do not get age relaxation.
- Women's reservation: AMC applies 33% reservation for women; unfilled women's seats go to men of the same category. Both men and women can apply.
- Experience rules: Only experience after your qualifying degree counts; part-time, daily-wage, trainee, honorary and additional-charge work is not accepted.
- Shortlisting: Depending on the number of applications, AMC may shortlist on merit and hold a written or online exam, trade test or interview.
- Serving employees: Gujarat government and PSU officers apply directly and inform their office within 7 days; central, other-state and local-body staff need a No Objection Certificate.
