About This Job

Apply for the Chief Officer (Fire) post in AMC. Fire degree + 10 yrs experience eligible. Salary: Rs 78,800-2,09,200. Last date: 25 Sep 2026.

AMC Chief Officer (Fire) Recruitment 2026: Overview

Ahmedabad Municipal Corporation (AMC) is recruiting the head of its Fire and Emergency Services Department through direct selection under Advertisement No. 03/2026-27. The Chief Officer (Fire) is a Class I post and leads the entire fire brigade of Ahmedabad, from fire stations and rescue teams to fire safety enforcement in a city of millions. This single, unreserved opening was released together with AMC's Deputy Chief Officer and Sahayak Sub Officer drives, so the new chief will also be shaping a team that is being expanded at the same time.

This is a top leadership role for senior fire officers. You need a fire-related qualification from the National Fire Service College (NFSC), Nagpur or a fire engineering degree, and more than a decade of whole-time fire brigade service, part of it at Divisional Fire Officer level or higher. Senior officers already working in AMC's fire department can qualify through a separate in-service route.

Service Conditions and Caveats

  • Probation: The selected officer stays on probation for two years.
  • Divisional Officer's Course: If you have not already completed the Divisional Officer's Course, you must finish it at NFSC Nagpur or an approved institute within two years of appointment. Probation can be extended by one year if you could not complete it for reasons beyond your control, and any delay caused by the administration is not counted against you.
  • No repeat: If you completed the Divisional Officer's Course before selection, you do not have to do it again.
  • Accepted fire courses: A general degree must be backed by NFSC's Divisional Officer's Course or Fire Prevention Course; otherwise you need a B.E./B.Tech in Fire or Fire and Safety, or a B.Sc (Fire).
  • AMC in-service route: Serving AMC fire officers can qualify with graduateship of the Institution of Fire Engineers (UK or India), the NFSC advanced diploma (DO Course) or AMIFireE London, plus matriculation and long service at Deputy Chief Officer or Second Officer rank. They must learn Gujarati within two years of appointment if they do not know it.
  • Eyesight: If you wear glasses, you must be able to carry out practical fire drills without them.
  • Computer knowledge (CCC+): You may apply without a certificate, but CCC+ (required for Class I and II posts) must be passed before appointment or within one year of joining.
  • Language: Adequate knowledge of Gujarati or Hindi or both is required.
  • Experience rules: Only experience earned after your qualifying degree counts. Part-time, trainee, honorary or additional-charge experience is not accepted, and an appointment letter alone is not proof.
  • Shortlisting: AMC may shortlist applicants on merit and hold a written or online exam, trade test or interview; the Municipal Commissioner's decision is final.
  • Serving officers elsewhere: Gujarat government and PSU officers apply directly and inform their office within 7 days; central, other-state, local-body and co-operative staff must produce a No Objection Certificate.
