CSIR-Central Leather Research Institute (CLRI), Chennai, a national laboratory under the Council of Scientific and Industrial Research (CSIR), is one of the world's premier institutes engaged in Leather Science and Technology research, associated with several national and international programmes. It has issued Notification No. 07/2026 (No.23(408)/2026-E.I) to fill 5 Project Assistant-II posts at its Regional Centre in Kanpur. The engagement is purely temporary and tenable up to 31 March 2027, or co-terminus with the project, whichever is earlier, and may be extended based on project requirements. There is no written exam, eligible candidates simply walk in with their documents on the interview date. CSIR-CLRI has issued a separate, similar Notification No. 08/2026 for its Regional Centre in Jalandhar around the same time, so make sure you are applying against the correct notification for the Kanpur centre.

Who Can Apply?

• Qualification: You need a Bachelor's degree in Physics, Medical Physics, Mathematics, Sports Biomechanics or an equivalent subject from a recognized University or Institute.
• Preferred Experience: Experience in field data collection or research support is desirable.
• Important: Candidates who have already completed a total of 6 years as Project Personnel across any CSIR lab or institute are not eligible to apply.
• Note: Students in their final year or final semester who are awaiting results are also not eligible.

Age Limit

• The upper age limit is 35 years, as on the date of the walk-in interview (25 August 2026).
• Age Relaxation: 5 years for SC/ST/PwBD/Women candidates, and 3 years for OBC candidates, or as per Government of India instructions.

Salary

• You will get a monthly pay of Rs. 20,000 plus HRA.
• The engagement is co-terminus with the project or up to 31 March 2027, whichever comes first, and the tenure mentioned may be curtailed or extended depending on project needs.

Selection Process (No Written Exam)

Selection is based on a single stage:

1. Walk-in Interview: Candidates who meet the qualification and age criteria can attend directly with their application form and supporting documents. The date of the interview is used to determine your qualification and age.

Candidates found suitable may be empaneled for future project requirements at CSIR-CLRI as well. This position is purely temporary and will not confer any right to permanent appointment in CLRI or CSIR. If any of your certificates are in a language other than Hindi or English, you must attach an English translation attested by a Gazetted Officer or Notary. Canvassing in any form will disqualify your candidature, and the number of positions notified is provisional and may increase or decrease at the time of selection. The decision of the Director, CSIR-CLRI on all matters relating to eligibility and selection will be final and binding.

3. Attach a photo ID proof (Aadhaar Card, Voter ID or similar) and 2 passport-size colour photographs.
4. Report to CSIR-CLRI Regional Centre, Near 36, MLD Sewage Treatment Plant, Wazidpur, Jajmau, Kanpur-208010 on 25 August 2026 at 11:00 AM.
5. Carry your original certificates for verification, entry is not allowed after 10:30 AM.
6. No travelling allowance (TA/DA) will be paid for attending the interview, and applications sent by post or courier will not be considered.
