FRI Junior Project Fellow Recruitment 2026: Overview

Forest Research Institute (FRI), Dehradun, under the Indian Council of Forestry Research and Education (ICFRE), is hiring Junior Project Fellows and Project Assistants for a Delhi Forest Department-funded field study. The project — Scientific Evaluation of Transplantation Success of Tree Species Transplanted under the Tree Transplantation Policy, 2020 — tracks how well trees survive after being moved during Delhi's infrastructure projects, and runs for 12 months under Dr. Abhishek Singh, Scientist-B. Selection is entirely through a walk-in interview, with no written test. If you're a recent science graduate or postgraduate in a forestry-related subject and enjoy fieldwork, this fellowship gives you hands-on research exposure without a long recruitment process.

Posts and Disciplines

• Junior Project Fellow: leads field data collection for the tree-transplantation evaluation and needs a first-class M.Sc. in Forestry, Agroforestry, Botany or Environmental Science.
• Project Assistant: supports the same project's fieldwork, sampling and record-keeping, and needs a B.Sc. in Forestry, Botany or Environmental Science.

Both roles involve extensive touring across the Delhi region to inspect transplanted trees, so candidates who are comfortable with regular field visits and basic computer use (MS Office) get preference. Prior experience in a related field also counts in your favour.

Service Conditions and Caveats

• Tenure: The fellowship runs for the project duration or until the funds are exhausted, whichever comes first, and may be extended as per ICFRE rules.
• No job guarantee: The fellowship is governed by ICFRE's rules and does not promise any further employment at FRI or any other council institute.
• Four-year rule: Candidates who have already completed four years as an SRF, SPF, JRF or JPF are not eligible for this round.
• PhD and teaching time: Time spent on a PhD or in teaching is not counted as research experience for this fellowship.
• NOC required: If you're already employed elsewhere, bring a No Objection Certificate from your current institute.
• Flexible headcount: FRI can increase, decrease or withdraw any of the notified posts without prior notice.

Application Submission Notes

There's no online form for this drive — just walk in with your bio-data, a recent passport-size photograph, and self-attested copies of all educational certificates and other relevant documents. Report for registration at the Board Room, FRI Main Building, P.O. New Forest, Dehradun between 9:00 AM and 10:15 AM on 10 September 2026. No separate call letter will be issued, and FRI does not reimburse travel expenses for attending the interview.

• Conduct field surveys of transplanted trees across the Delhi region to assess survival rates
