Tamil Nadu Public Service Commission (TNPSC) has released Notification No. 04/2026 (Advertisement No. 734) dated 20 May 2026 for the Combined Technical Services Examination (Non-Interview Posts). Who Can Apply?

General Eligibility

  • You must possess adequate knowledge of Tamil (SSLC pass in Tamil medium / Tamil as a subject / Second Class Language Test in Tamil conducted by TNPSC).
  • The qualification must be obtained on or before the date of notification (20 May 2026).

Post-wise Qualifications (key posts)

  • Assistant Geologist (Post 1750): M.Sc in Geology or Applied Geology or M.Sc (Tech) in Hydrogeology.
  • Assistant Engineer (Civil/Electrical/Mechanical) — multiple posts: B.E./B.Tech degree in the respective branch from a recognised university, or pass in Sections A & B of Institution of Engineers (India) in the relevant branch.
  • Assistant Engineer (Agricultural Engineering) — 1667: B.E./B.Tech in Agricultural Engineering OR B.E./B.Tech in Mechanical/Civil/Automobile/Production/Industrial Engineering (considered only if no Agri-Engineering candidate).
  • Drug Inspector: Degree in Pharmacy or Pharmaceutical Sciences or Medicine with Clinical Pharmacology or Microbiology specialisation.
  • Horticultural Officer: B.Sc Horticulture.
  • Assistant Manager (IT / Civil / Electrical): B.E./B.Tech with overall First Class CGPA in the relevant branch + First Class in 10th and 12th.
  • Assistant Accounts Officer: Any UGC-recognised degree + CA Inter (ICAI) or ICWA Inter pass.
  • Assistant Tourist Officer: Degree in Travel and Tourism or any Degree with a Diploma in Tourism + Computer Course + proficiency in English and Tamil.
  • Librarian / Assistant Librarian: Degree + B.Lib Science.
  • Translator: Law degree (UGC + Bar Council recognised) + Proficiency in Tamil.
  • Junior Architect: Architecture degree + registered with Council of Architecture.
  • Junior Scientific Officer: M.Sc (Forensic Science) + degree in the assigned group, or M.Sc in the relevant subject.
  • Block Health Statistician: Degree in Statistics or Mathematics or Economics from a UGC-recognised university.
  • Junior Chemist: B.Sc (Chemistry).
  • Junior Photographer: B.Sc Visual Communication.

Age Limit

  • Minimum age: 21 years (all posts) as on 01 July 2026.
  • Maximum age for Others (General): 32 years for most posts; 37 for Asst Engineer 3269 / Environmental Scientist; 35 for System Manager; 37 for Asst Engineer (Industries) 1900; 42 for Junior Photographer 3805.
  • SC/SC(A)/ST/MBC/DC/BC(OBCM)/BCM: No maximum age limit for most posts.
  • Age Concession for Persons with Benchmark Disability: +10 years (42 for most posts; 52 for Junior Photographer; 47 for Asst Engineer 3269/Environmental Scientist). PwBD candidates not eligible for some posts (see Section 4.5.2).
  • Ex-Servicemen: Maximum age 50 years.
  • Destitute Widow: No maximum age limit for most posts; 37 for Asst Engineer (Mechanical) 3268 / AGM-RM 3798; 34 for Asst Engineer 3269 / Environmental Scientist.

Selection Process

Selection is purely on the basis of marks scored in the single-stage written examination (No Interview):

  1. Paper I (Common — 3 hours, 300 marks OMR): Part A — Tamil Eligibility Test (100 Qs, 150 marks, SSLC standard); Part B — General Studies (75 Qs, 150 marks, Degree standard); Part C — Aptitude & Mental Ability (25 Qs, included with Part B for total 150). Questions in English and Tamil. Minimum 40% (60 marks) in Part A is mandatory to evaluate other sections.
  2. Paper II (Subject Paper — 3 hours, 300 marks CBT): 200 questions of Degree/PG standard in the chosen subject from 30 subject codes (Geology, Engineering, Agriculture, Architecture, Chemistry, Law etc.). Most papers in English; some bilingual.
  3. Translator Paper II: Descriptive type, 2.5 hours, 100 marks.
  4. Onscreen Certificate Verification: 1:3 ratio (General) / 1:2 (reserved categories) called for onscreen document check.
  5. Physical Certificate Verification & Counselling: 1:3 / 1:1.5 ratio for counselling posts; 1:1.2 for non-counselling posts.

Minimum qualifying marks: 135/450 (SC/SC(A)/ST/MBC/DC/BC(OBCM)/BCM); 180/450 (Others). Translator: 75/250 (reserved) / 100/250 (Others).

  3. Login with your User ID and Password and click the Apply button against this recruitment.
  4. Fill the online application form, choose your subject paper(s) and 2 examination district preferences.
  5. Upload your photograph (20-50 KB, taken after notification date) and signature (10-20 KB).
  6. Pay the examination fee of Rs. 100 (plus Rs. 100 per additional subject) online by Net Banking / Card / UPI.
  7. Submit and take a printout for your records.
  8. An Application Correction Window opens from 29 June 2026 to 1 July 2026 for editing.

Responsibilities

  • Carry out technical duties specific to your post (engineering design, lab analysis, inspection, statistics, library science, archaeology etc.) for the assigned Tamil Nadu Government department
  • Implement state government schemes and projects in your department
  • Conduct field inspections, sample testing, surveys, audits or counselling as per post requirements
  • Prepare reports, technical drawings, statistical returns and official correspondence in English and Tamil
  • Coordinate with senior officers, contractors, public and other departments
  • Maintain departmental records, files and statutory registers as per government norms
  • Comply with rules of the Tamil Nadu Government Servants (Conditions of Service) Act, 2016
  • Attend training programmes and contribute to capacity-building of your department

Eligibility Criteria

Minimum Qualification

Bachelor's Degree / PG Degree / B.E. / B.Tech / M.Sc / MBA / CA Inter / B.Lib / Architecture / Pharmacy Degree from a UGC-recognised university — qualification varies by post. Knowledge of Tamil is essential.
