About This Job

The Railway Recruitment Boards (RRBs) are hiring 6565 Technicians in Indian Railways under Centralised Employment Notice (CEN) 02/2026. If you have passed 10th class with ITI, or hold a Diploma/Degree in Engineering, you can apply online. The application window is 30 June 2026 to 29 July 2026. The starting salary ranges from Rs. 19,900 to Rs. 29,200 per month depending on the grade.

Railway Recruitment Board (RRB) Technician Recruitment 2026 - 6565 Posts

The Railway Recruitment Boards (RRBs), under the Ministry of Railways, have released a Short Notice for CEN 02/2026 on 18 May 2026 for the recruitment of Technician Grade-I Signal and Technician Grade-III posts across various railway zones in India. The recruitment is for a total of 6565 vacancies: 323 posts of Technician Grade-I Signal and 6242 posts of Technician Grade-III. The detailed Centralised Employment Notification (CEN) with full eligibility, exam pattern, and zone-wise vacancy breakdown will be released on 29 June 2026, and online applications will open the next day on 30 June 2026.

  • Technician Grade-I Signal: 323 posts (Pay Level 5)
  • Technician Grade-III: 6242 posts (Pay Level 2)

Vacancies will be distributed across all participating Railway Recruitment Boards (Ahmedabad, Ajmer, Bangalore, Bhopal, Bhubaneswar, Bilaspur, Chandigarh, Chennai, Gorakhpur, Guwahati, Jammu-Srinagar, Kolkata, Malda, Mumbai, Muzaffarpur, Patna, Prayagraj, Ranchi, Secunderabad, Siliguri, and Thiruvananthapuram). Zone-wise and category-wise (UR/OBC/SC/ST/EWS) vacancy details will be available in the detailed CEN to be released on 29 June 2026.

Who Can Apply?

For Technician Grade-I Signal:

  • Educational Qualification: Course Completed Act Apprenticeship or ITI in the notified trades (Electronics Mechanic, Mechanic Radio & TV, Electrician, Wireman, Instrument Mechanic, Mechanic (Motor Vehicle), etc.) OR 3-year Diploma in Engineering (Electronics, Electrical, Electrical & Electronics, Communications, Instrumentation, Information Technology, Computer Science, etc.) from a recognised institution OR B.Sc with Physics/Electronics/Computer Science as a subject.

For Technician Grade-III:

  • Educational Qualification: Passed 10th class (Matriculation) from a recognised Board plus ITI in the relevant trade OR Course Completed Act Apprenticeship in the relevant trade.

The detailed list of trades and equivalents will be specified in the full CEN 02/2026 notification to be released on 29 June 2026.

Age Limit

  • Technician Grade-I Signal: 18 to 33 years
  • Technician Grade-III: 18 to 30 years
  • Age will be reckoned as on the cut-off date that will be specified in the detailed CEN
  • Age Relaxation: SC/ST candidates get 5 years relaxation, OBC (Non-Creamy Layer) candidates get 3 years, and PwBD candidates get 10 years (UR), 13 years (OBC-NCL), and 15 years (SC/ST), as per government norms. Ex-Servicemen also get age relaxation as per rules.

Salary

  • Technician Grade-I Signal: Initial pay Rs. 29,200 per month (Pay Level 5 of 7th CPC)
  • Technician Grade-III: Initial pay Rs. 19,900 per month (Pay Level 2 of 7th CPC)
  • Plus Dearness Allowance (DA), House Rent Allowance (HRA), Transport Allowance (TA) and other allowances as per Railway Board rules
  • You will also be eligible for Privilege Passes, medical facilities, and provident fund benefits

Application Fee

  • General / OBC / EWS: Rs. 500 (Rs. 400 will be refunded after appearing in the CBT)
  • SC / ST / Ex-Servicemen / PwBD / Women / Transgender / Minorities / EBC: Rs. 250 (full Rs. 250 will be refunded after appearing in the CBT)
  • Payment Mode: Online through net banking, debit card, credit card, UPI, or wallets
  • Final fee structure will be confirmed in the detailed CEN to be released on 29 June 2026

Selection Process

The selection will be done in the following stages:

  1. Computer-Based Test (CBT): A single-stage CBT with objective multiple-choice questions covering General Awareness, General Intelligence & Reasoning, Mathematics, and General Science / Trade-related subjects. Negative marking of 1/3 marks for each wrong answer.
  2. Document Verification (DV): Shortlisted candidates will be called for verification of original certificates
  3. Medical Examination (ME): You must pass the prescribed medical standards for the Technician category before final appointment

The final merit list will be prepared based on normalised CBT marks. The detailed exam pattern, syllabus, and scheme of exam will be specified in the detailed CEN to be released on 29 June 2026.

  2. Click on 'Apply for CEN 02/2026 - Technician' and complete the One-Time Registration (OTR) if you have not registered earlier.
  3. Fill in your personal details, educational qualifications, ITI/Diploma details, and select your preferred RRB.
  4. Upload your photograph, signature, and ID proof in the prescribed format.
  5. Pay the application fee online through net banking, debit card, credit card, UPI, or wallet.
  6. Submit the form before 11:59 PM on 29 July 2026 and take a printout for your records.

Responsibilities

  • Operate, maintain, and repair signalling and telecommunication equipment at railway stations and along tracks
  • Handle installation, testing, and commissioning of electrical and electronic systems in railway workshops, depots, and stations
  • Carry out routine inspection and preventive maintenance of railway machinery and rolling stock
  • Assist senior technicians and engineers in fault diagnosis and emergency repairs
  • Follow safety protocols and Standard Operating Procedures (SOPs) of Indian Railways
  • Maintain proper records of maintenance work, spare parts, and incident reports
  • Work in shifts including nights, weekends, and on call as per the operational needs of Indian Railways

Minimum Qualification

10th class (Matriculation) plus ITI in relevant trade for Technician Grade-III; ITI / Course Completed Act Apprenticeship / 3-year Diploma in Engineering / B.Sc with Physics/Electronics/Computer Science for Technician Grade-I Signal

Required Skills
