The Karnataka Public Service Commission (KPSC) is hiring 1 Legal Adviser to head the Legal Cell at its head office in Udyog Soudha, Bengaluru. This is a contract role for 2 years with a monthly honorarium of Rs. 1,15,000 plus a vehicle allowance of Rs. 35,000. Only retired District and Sessions Judges below 65 years of age can apply. KPSC Legal Adviser Recruitment 2024 — 1 Post
Karnataka Public Service Commission has issued a notification to fill the post of Legal Adviser in its Legal Cell. The post is reserved for retired judicial officers with rich experience in service and recruitment matters. The selected adviser will guide KPSC on litigation, legal opinions, and drafting of legal documents under the Karnataka Civil Services Rules, 1958.
Who Can Apply?
- Eligibility: You must be a retired District and Sessions Judge.
- Citizenship: Indian national.
- Experience: Strong service record and high experience in service-related matters and senior judicial positions.
- Mental fitness: Sound physical and mental health to handle the duties of the post.
Age Limit
- Maximum age: Below 65 years as on 5 September 2024.
- You must be a retired District and Sessions Judge as on the cut-off date.
Salary
- Monthly honorarium: Rs. 1,15,000 per month.
- Vehicle allowance: Rs. 35,000 per month.
- Tenure: Initial appointment is for 1 year, extendable by another 1 year based on your performance review (total 2 years).
- Leave benefits: Same as those available to retired government employees under the Karnataka Civil Services Rules, 1958.

Responsibilities
- Head the Legal Cell at KPSC office and handle all legal matters related to recruitments and examinations.
- Give legal opinion on issues of litigation, service matters, and the role and functioning of the Commission.
- Interpret laws, statutes, rules, and regulations and furnish legal opinions in consulted matters.
- Prepare pleadings in cases filed by and against the Commission before legal forums.
- Issue authorisation letters and scrutinise para-wise remarks, draft statements of objections, and written statements for approval of the Secretary.
- Monitor pending litigations, secure copies of judgments, and forward them to concerned branches for legal action.
- Advise on whether an appeal should be preferred and assist Standing Counsels in pending cases.
- Assist the Commission on any legal issue requiring expert advice.
