CSIR-Central Leather Research Institute (CSIR-CLRI), Chennai released a fresh notice on 08 June 2026 for the Junior Stenographer recruitment process. Selection Process

The CLRI Junior Stenographer selection process will now begin with the competitive written examination, followed by a stenography proficiency test.

  1. Competitive Written Examination: The exam is scheduled on 05 July 2026 at Chennai. Exact time and venue will be printed on the admit card.
  2. Stenography Proficiency Test: Only candidates who qualify in the written exam will be called for the stenography test.
  3. Final Screening and Document Verification: Eligibility documents will be checked before final selection or appointment.

Written Exam Pattern

  • Total questions: 200 objective questions.
  • Total marks: 200 marks.
  • Time: 2 hours, with extra time for eligible scribe users.
  • Subjects: General Intelligence and Reasoning, General Awareness, and English Language and Comprehension.
  • Negative marking: 0.25 marks will be deducted for each wrong answer.

Stenography Test

  • Dictation speed: 80 words per minute for 10 minutes.
  • English transcription: 50 minutes, or 70 minutes for scribe users.
  • Hindi transcription: 65 minutes, or 90 minutes for scribe users.
  • Nature of test: Qualifying only; final merit is based on written exam performance among candidates who qualify the stenography test.

Exam Pattern

The CLRI Junior Stenographer written exam will have 200 objective questions for 200 marks. You will get 2 hours, or 2 hours 40 minutes if you are eligible for a scribe.

Subject-wise Breakdown

  • General Intelligence and Reasoning: 50 questions for 50 marks
  • General Awareness: 50 questions for 50 marks
  • English Language and Comprehension: 100 questions for 100 marks

Negative Marking: 0.25 marks will be deducted for every wrong answer.

Exam Language: Questions will be in English and Hindi, except the English Language section.

Exam Type: OMR-based or computer-based objective MCQ exam.
