IMU Kolkata JRF Recruitment 2026: Overview

Indian Maritime University (IMU), Kolkata Campus is looking for a Junior Research Fellow (JRF) in its School of Marine Engineering and Technology at Taratalla Road, Kolkata. The fellow joins a sponsored project funded by the Ministry of Ports, Shipping and Waterways (MoPSW) titled "Study on National Waterway Quality and Tidal Influence on Corrosion Insights for Inland Vessel Maintenance: Toward Efficient Dry Docking and Maritime Vision 2047".

The project is led by Dr Aditya Kolakoti, Associate Professor (Principal Investigator), with Mr Chinmoy Sarkar as Co-PI. It suits engineers who hold both a first-class B.E./B.Tech and M.E./M.Tech in marine, mechanical, metallurgical, materials or production engineering and want hands-on research that mixes fieldwork on national waterways with lab and modelling work. You can also register for a Ph.D. at IMU under the institute's rules while on the project.

Service Conditions and Caveats

• Temporary post: the fellowship is purely temporary and ends with the project. It runs for a maximum of three years or until the project closes, whichever comes first.
• Initial term: you are first engaged for six months; extension depends on satisfactory performance and the availability of funds.
• Higher stipend in year 3: the stipend rises in the third year of the fellowship, with HRA paid on top throughout.
• Ph.D. option: you may register for a Ph.D. at IMU as per institute rules, and can apply for a Ph.D. seat whenever IMU's advertisement is open.
• Interview: only shortlisted candidates are called for an online or offline interview, informed by email. No TA/DA is paid for attending in person.
• Joining: the selected candidate is expected to join as early as possible after receiving the offer.
• Closing date may move: the last date can be extended if enough suitable applications do not come in, and the university may choose not to fill the post.
