SGPGIMS Project Research Scientist-II and Project Technical Support-II Recruitment 2026: Overview

Sanjay Gandhi Postgraduate Institute of Medical Sciences (SGPGIMS), Lucknow is hiring project staff for two ICMR-funded research projects run by Dr. Lokendra Kumar Sharma in the Department of Molecular Medicine and Biotechnology. One project grows patient-derived organoids (tiny lab-grown tumour models) to build a biobank and test new treatments for glioblastoma, an aggressive brain cancer. The other looks for mitochondrial markers that could help diagnose endometriosis without surgery and explain how the disease develops.

These are temporary project positions, not regular SGPGIMS posts. They suit life science and biotechnology graduates or postgraduates who already have hands-on lab experience and want to work on cancer or women's health research at one of India's leading medical institutes.

Posts and Disciplines

• Project Research Scientist-II (Non-Medical), glioblastoma organoid project: the senior research role. It is open to postgraduates in biology or life sciences with research experience, PhD holders, and four-year engineering, IT or computer science graduates with experience. NET/GATE, cancer research work, 3-D or organoid culture, microscopy and a good publication record count in your favour.
• Project Technical Support-II, glioblastoma organoid project: a technical lab role for life science graduates with experience or postgraduates in biotechnology, biochemistry or biological science. Cell culture, human sample handling and clinical data recording are the desirable skills.
• Project Technical Support-II, endometriosis project: a second technical post under a different project. Along with life science graduates, it also accepts Class 12 science plus an MLT/DMLT or engineering diploma with longer field experience. Work in a gynaecology clinic, patient counselling, sample collection and patient follow-up is preferred.

Service Conditions and Caveats

• Co-terminus with the project: The positions are temporary and end with the project.
• One-year term: Your first appointment is for one year. It can be cut short or extended depending on project funding and your performance.
• Notice period: Either side can end the engagement with one month's notice.
• Shortlisting: If many people apply, the PI may shortlist on the basis of educational profile, desirable experience and eligibility.
• No regularisation: The application form makes you declare that you will not claim regularisation of the project post.
• No travel allowance: No TA/DA is paid for attending the interview.
• Right to cancel: The Director can cancel the advertisement or the selection without giving any reason.

The advertisement uses a separate form for each post, and the two Technical Support-II posts have different forms because they sit under different projects — pick the one that matches the project you want. Only shortlisted candidates get an email with the interview date and time.
