National Institute of Technology Warangal (NIT Warangal) JRF Recruitment 2026 - 1 Post

NIT Warangal has released Advertisement No. NITW/CED/WRE/JD/PMECRG/01 for 1 Junior Research Fellow position under an Anusandhan National Research Foundation (ANRF) funded project titled "Land-atmosphere coupling and their impact on compound extremes" in the Department of Civil Engineering. The project studies how land-atmosphere interactions drive extreme weather events, examines how these patterns vary across different climate zones and seasons to identify hotspot regions, and looks at how land use and land cover changes affect coupling strength and the occurrence of compound extremes. This is a 3-year temporary research position ideal for civil or agricultural engineering graduates interested in hydrology and climate research.

Who Can Apply?

You can qualify for this JRF position through either of these two pathways:

• Pathway 1 (Marks-based): Minimum 60% aggregate marks or 6.5 CGPA at both UG and PG level if you belong to General/EWS/OBC-NCL category (55% marks or 6.0 CGPA for SC/ST/PwD candidates). GATE is not mandatory under this route.
• Pathway 2 (Bachelor's-based): A Bachelor's degree in Engineering/Technology with at least 70% marks or 7.5 CGPA for General category (65% marks or 7.0 CGPA for SC/ST/PwD). GATE is not mandatory under this route either.
• Branch Requirement: You need a B.Tech/B.E. in Civil Engineering or Agricultural Engineering (or an equivalent degree). If you hold a Master's degree, it must be an M.Tech/M.E. in a relevant Civil Engineering specialization.
• Desirable Experience: GATE qualification, prior knowledge of hydrological modelling, programming skills in R, Python, or MATLAB, and good analytical and technical writing ability are all considered an added advantage.

Age Limit

• You should be under 30 years old to apply.
• Age Relaxation: Applicable as per NIT Warangal institute rules for reserved categories.

Salary

• You will get a fellowship of Rs. 37,000 per month for the first two years and Rs. 42,000 per month in the third year, based on your performance.
• No separate TA/DA is paid for attending the selection interview.

Selection Process

Selection for this position happens in two steps:

1. Screening of Applications: Your qualifications, GATE score (if any), and research/industrial experience mentioned in your CV are reviewed against the project requirements.
2. Interview: Shortlisted candidates are called for an interview, which may be held online or offline. No TA/DA is paid for attending the interview.

Note: If you clear GATE, you are exempted from the separate written test needed to register for a Ph.D. at NIT Warangal later. Without GATE, you would need to appear for that test at the time of Ph.D. registration. Remember that this position is purely temporary and liable for termination based on your performance.
