IOP Postdoc and Research Associate CMPT Recruitment 2026: Overview
Institute of Physics (IOP), Bhubaneswar is recruiting Postdoctoral Fellows and Research Associates for its Condensed Matter Physics Theory (CMPT) Group. These are project-based appointments under the Department of Atomic Energy (DAE) physics research programme, identified as RIO 4004.
Condensed Matter Physics Theory is the focus of this notice. The group is recruiting across quantum matter and the physics of active, biological and complex systems within one project-linked notice.
Posts and Disciplines
- Quantum condensed matter physics: Research covers topological quantum matter, quantum transport, frustrated magnetism and quantum thermodynamics. Other named themes include disorder, correlated electrons and Floquet systems; the group does not limit its interests to this list.
- Active matter and biological physics: This part of the programme addresses living systems, pattern formation and phase transitions away from equilibrium. It sits within the broader active-matter and complex-systems research area.
- Magnetic and complex systems: A complementary strand covers magnetic-system modelling, hysteresis and rheology. These themes share the notice with active-matter research, rather than forming a separate recruitment.
Service Conditions and Caveats
- Initial tenure: Your appointment starts with one year. A second year is possible after a performance review under institute rules; continuation is conditional.
- Further extension: A third year may be considered if performance and available funding support it.
- Project-linked continuation: The institute also considers how much time remains necessary to complete the project when deciding on a third year. An extension can cover that whole year or a shorter period.
- Accommodation: Campus housing depends on availability. The offer does not guarantee an institute residence.

Monthly fellowship: RA-I Rs. 58,000 immediately after Ph.D.; RA-II Rs. 61,000 with one year of postdoctoral experience; RA-III Rs. 67,000 with two or more years.

Annual contingency grant of Rs. 60,000. Campus accommodation subject to availability; HRA at the applicable institute rate for those living outside campus.
