IITR ICED Research Associate and Project Fellow Recruitment 2026: Overview

Indian Institute of Technology Roorkee (IITR) is hiring Research Associates and Project Fellows for the Development of International Centre of Excellence for Dams project at Roorkee. The work sits within the International Centre of Excellence for Dams (ICED), under Principal Investigator Prof. M. L. Sharma, with sponsorship from CWC, New Delhi. Posts and Disciplines

• Research Associate, structural work: This stream covers gravity dams, power houses and intake structures. It also connects modelling with automated extraction and processing of engineering data.
• Research Associate, geotechnical work: This stream focuses on soil and rock behaviour, embankment dam stability and ground motions. Geotechnical investigations form part of its field of work.
• Project Fellow, structural work: This role covers the structural modelling stream within the same dam project, including design checks and technical reporting.
• Project Fellow, geotechnical work: This role covers numerical studies of soil and rock masses, stability analysis and the interpretation of ground-motion inputs.

Post-wise Duties

Structural Research Associate and Project Fellow

You will develop numerical models of gravity dams, power houses and intake structures. The work includes using Python scripts to extract model outputs and process them for engineering review, alongside preparing detailed technical reports.

The structural stream also involves design validation and field visits. You will work with the connection between analytical results and the dam structures being studied, so the assignment includes reporting and site-related work alongside computer modelling.

Geotechnical Research Associate and Project Fellow

You will model soil and rock masses for embankment dam stability and work on deconvolution of ground motions. The assignment brings numerical analysis together with geotechnical investigations and dam-stability studies.

You will also prepare technical reports and take part in field visits. Across this stream, the notice connects modelling, investigation and reporting as parts of the same project work.

Service Conditions and Caveats

• Tenure: The project engagement is for one year.
• Preference: SC/ST applicants receive preference when qualifications and experience are equal.
• Travel costs: No TA/DA is available for attending the interview. Keep this condition in mind when arranging travel to Roorkee.
