IIT Indore is hiring 1 Junior Research Fellow (JRF) for a space science research project in the Department of Astronomy, Astrophysics and Space Engineering (DAASE). If you have an M.Sc in Physics/Astronomy or a B.Tech in Engineering Physics along with a valid GATE, CSIR-UGC NET, or JEST score, you can apply. The fellowship is Rs. 37,000 per month plus HRA. IIT Indore Junior Research Fellow (JRF) Recruitment 2026 - 1 Post

The Indian Institute of Technology Indore (IIT Indore) has released a notification for 1 JRF post in a research project titled "Investigation of Magnetospheric Transients: Implications to Geospace and Space Assets". The project is funded by the ANRF Advanced Research Grant and is done in collaboration with the Indian Institute of Geomagnetism (IIG), Mumbai. The post is for 1 year and can be extended up to 3 years. Selected candidates will also be encouraged to register for the PhD program at IIT Indore.

Who Can Apply?

Essential Qualification

• You need one of these degrees:
  • B.Tech in Engineering Physics, M.Sc in Physics/Astronomy, or a 5-year Integrated B.S.-M.S. in Physics/Applied Physics/Astronomy/Space Science, OR
  • M.Tech / M.S. (by research) / M.E. in Engineering Physics or Space Science and Engineering
• You must also have one of these:
  • A valid GATE / CSIR-UGC NET (including LS) / JEST score, OR
  • A pass in any national-level exam run by central government bodies like DST, DBT, DAE, DOS, DRDO, ICAR, ICMR, IIT, IISc, or IISER

Desirable Skills (Preferred, Not Compulsory)

• Strong coding experience in C, C++, Python and AI/ML tools
• Experience in astrophysical and/or space plasma simulations
• Experience in analysing open-source space-based datasets
• A good academic record throughout your studies

Salary

• You will get a fellowship of Rs. 37,000 per month plus HRA as per institute norms.
• If you get selected for the PhD program, the fellowship continues for the PhD duration as per institute norms.

• Work with open-source, space-based datasets to support the research
