IIT Gandhinagar has released Advertisement No. SPON/10443/Advt0258 dated 8 July 2026 for 1 Junior Research Fellow post to work under Prof. Abhishek Singhal in the Civil Engineering department. The project is titled "Integrated Hydrothermal Liquefaction of Mixed Waste Streams for Sustainable Biocrude Production" — you will help convert food waste, sewage sludge, packaging waste and other municipal solid waste into usable biocrude fuel using hydrothermal liquefaction (HTL) technology. The appointment is for one year and can be extended depending on your performance and continued project funding. This is a hands-on lab research role, ideal if you enjoy running experiments and want research experience before pursuing a PhD.

Who Can Apply?

• Qualification: You need a Post Graduate Degree in Basic Science, or a Graduate/Post Graduate Degree in a Professional Course, provided you were selected through one of the routes listed below.
• Qualifying Route: You must have qualified CSIR-UGC NET (including Lectureship/Assistant Professorship) or GATE, OR cleared a national-level selection process run by DST, DBT, DAE, DOS, DRDO, MoE, ICAR, ICMR, IIT, IISc, IISER or NISER.
• Preferred Degree: An MSc/MTech/ME or BTech/BE/BSc in Civil, Environmental or Chemical Engineering (or an equivalent stream) is desirable but not compulsory.
• Preferred Experience: Prior hands-on work with hydrothermal liquefaction (HTL) or hydrothermal carbonization (HTC), biomass handling, and lab characterization techniques (proximate/ultimate analysis, HHV, GC-MS, HPLC, ICP-MS, Py-GC-MS, XRF, SEM-EDX) will strengthen your application.
• Skills: Good technical communication skills, both verbal and written, are expected since you will document experiments and results.

Salary

• You will get a consolidated monthly remuneration of Rs. 48,100 per month, which includes House Rent Allowance (HRA) of up to Rs. 11,100 per month where applicable.
• This is a project-funded position, so your pay follows the sponsoring agency's fellowship norms rather than the regular 7th CPC pay matrix.
