CSIR-Indian Institute of Petroleum (CSIR-IIP), Dehradun, a premier research institute under the Council of Scientific and Industrial Research (CSIR), has released Advertisement No. 03/2026 to fill 96 temporary positions spread across 23 post codes in disciplines like Chemical, Mechanical, Electrical and Metallurgical Engineering, Chemistry, Physics, Biotechnology and Computer Science. There is no fixed written exam for these posts — selection happens directly through a walk-in interview. These project positions support CSIR-IIP's research work on petroleum refining, green technologies and reducing carbon footprint, and are open to fresh postgraduates as well as experienced researchers.

Who Can Apply?

Project Scientist (PS-I / PS-II):

• Master's or Integrated Master's degree in Engineering (EEE/Power Electronics/EV, Metallurgical or Mechanical) with 4-5 years of relevant R&D experience in industrial, academic or Science & Technology organizations

Principal Project Associate (Principal PAT):

• Bachelor's degree in Metallurgical, Mechanical or Energy Science Engineering with 6 years of R&D experience, OR a Master's degree with 3 years, OR a PhD with 3 years of experience

Senior Project Associate (Senior PAT):

• Bachelor's degree with 3 years of experience, or Master's/PhD with 2 years of experience, in Chemistry, Physics, Chemical/Mechanical/Biotechnology Engineering, Environmental Science, Data Science, Microbiology or Computer Science, depending on the post code

Project Associate (PAT-II and PAT-I):

• Bachelor's or Master's degree in Chemistry, Chemical/Mechanical/Electrical Engineering, Biotechnology, Physics, Environmental Science, Data Science or Microbiology, with 0-2 years of relevant experience depending on the post code

Project Assistant (PA-II and PA-I):

• B.Sc in Physics/Chemistry/Maths, B.Sc IT/Computer Science, a 3-year Diploma in Mechanical Engineering, or 10th pass with ITI in Fitter trade, depending on the post code

Where a PhD is the essential qualification, only candidates who already hold the awarded degree can apply — PhD (submitted) candidates are not eligible. Final semester and result-awaited candidates also cannot apply.

Age Limit

• The age limit ranges from 35 to 40 years depending on the post, as on the date of your interview.
• Age Relaxation: SC/ST, PwBD and Women candidates get a 5-year relaxation, and OBC candidates get a 3-year relaxation.

Salary

• Monthly emoluments range from Rs. 18,000 to Rs. 67,000 depending on the post, plus House Rent Allowance (HRA) if the project has a provision for it.
• Project Associate (PAT-II) posts pay Rs. 35,000/month if you qualify through CSIR-UGC/ICAR/ICMR NET (including lectureship/assistant professorship), GATE or an equivalent national-level exam, and Rs. 28,000/month otherwise.
• Project Associate (PAT-I) posts pay Rs. 31,000/month under the same qualifying exams, and Rs. 25,000/month otherwise.
• Project Scientist and Project Assistant posts also get a salary increment of 5% to 15% after 2-3 years of experience in the same project.

There is no application fee for this recruitment — it is a walk-in interview and candidates apply directly with the prescribed form.

Selection Process (Mainly Interview-Based)

Selection is mainly done through an interview. CSIR-IIP may conduct a written screening test for some posts only if there is a large response, and the syllabus would be based on your subject.

1. Document Verification: Bring original certificates for your education, age, category and experience — these are checked and handed back to you the same day.
2. Interview: Report at the CSIR-IIP Reception by 8:30 AM sharp on your post code's scheduled date. No one is allowed to appear after 10:00 AM.
