NCB Assistant Recruitment 2026: Overview
Narcotics Control Bureau (NCB), under the Ministry of Home Affairs, is filling Assistant posts through deputation. These are Group B, non-gazetted ministerial positions across the bureau’s offices. The notice uses an open vacancy circular, so applications continue to be considered while positions remain available.
Service Conditions and Caveats
- Posting: You may be posted anywhere in India. The circular names offices across the country, including Delhi, Kolkata, Chennai, Mumbai, Guwahati, Hyderabad, Bengaluru and other centres; it does not promise your preferred station.
- Local familiarity: NCB considers knowledge of the local language, terrain and culture when deciding postings. The notice presents these as placement considerations rather than a separate language-test requirement.
- Deputation tenure: The normal period is up to three years, including any immediately preceding deputation to another ex-cadre post. Extension can take the total up to seven years, depending on suitability, performance and the applicable government guidelines.
- Extension limit: No extension beyond that limit is permitted. Deputation conditions follow the Department of Personnel and Training and Ministry of Home Affairs instructions cited in the circular, including later amendments.
- Release from your department: Your parent office must be able to spare you promptly if you are selected. Its forwarding certificate must confirm that you will be relieved to join NCB.
- Available positions: The notified strength may increase or decrease. Consideration continues against the positions available in each monthly cycle.

You need a bachelor’s degree and qualifying Central Government service. The routes cover analogous regular posts, 6 years in Level 5 with 2 years of establishment/accounts experience, or 10 years as a Level 4 Upper Division Clerk with 3 years of that experience.
