CBI Lecturer Recruitment 2026: Overview

The Central Bureau of Investigation (CBI) is looking for two teachers for its training campus — a Lecturer (Law) and a Lecturer (Criminology) — both posted at the CBI Academy in Ghaziabad. The Academy is where the agency's investigators and prosecutors are trained, and the circular says plainly that these posts exist because teaching law and criminology is an essential part of every CBI training programme. Both posts are Group 'A' Gazetted, non-ministerial and are filled on deputation, including on short-term contract. Unlike most CBI circulars, this one is open to officers of state governments, union territories, universities, recognised research institutions, public sector undertakings and autonomous or statutory bodies as well — you do not have to be a central government officer to be considered.

Posts and Disciplines

• Lecturer (Law): a teaching post for a law specialist, meant to train CBI officers in criminal law and the legal side of investigation and prosecution.
• Lecturer (Criminology): the same rank on the same campus, but on the criminology side of the syllabus — the study of crime and criminal behaviour that the agency's trainees have to work with.

Both posts are based at the Academy in Ghaziabad and are filled through the same circular, so there is no choice of station involved.

Post-wise Duties

Lecturer (Law)

You will train CBI investigators and prosecutors in law as part of the Academy's course calendar, taking the classroom sessions and keeping your teaching material current with the law as it stands.

Lecturer (Criminology)

You will handle the criminology portion of the same training programmes, teaching the officers who attend the Academy's courses and assessing them through the course.

Service Conditions and Caveats

• Private persons are not eligible: the recruitment rules for these posts bar candidates from outside government, universities, research institutions, PSUs and statutory or autonomous bodies. You must already be serving in one of those.
• Proper channel: only applications routed through your employer, with cadre clearance, vigilance clearance and an integrity certificate, will be considered.
• Deputation terms: the DoPT orders govern the terms — OM No. 6/8/2009-Estt (Pay-II) dated 17 June 2010, OM No. 2/6/2016-Estt (Pay-II) dated 17 February 2016, OM No. 2/6/2018-Estt (Pay-II) dated 18 May 2018 and OM No. 2/9/2018-Estt (Pay-II) dated 12 April 2021, as amended.
• Tenure: the deputation, including any deputation you are already serving in another ex-cadre post, will ordinarily not cross three years.
• Extra pay: officers on deputation to CBI are entitled to a Special Security Allowance on their basic pay every month.
• Open circular, quarterly screening: this is an open vacancy circular. Complete applications received by the end of each quarter are considered against the vacancies available at the end of that quarter, so a late application simply waits for the next round.
• No backing out: you cannot withdraw once you have applied, and refusing to join after selection means being debarred from any deputation in the Government of India for the tenure plus the cooling-off period.

Use the bio-data proforma at Annexure-III of the circular and fill every column — the circular is specific about that.
