Aligarh Muslim University (AMU) Assistant Professor (Chinese) Recruitment 2026 - 1 Post

AMU has released Local Advertisement No. 04/2026 (dated 3 August 2026) for the temporary, contractual appointment of Assistant Professor in Chinese under the Faculty of International Studies. This post is reserved under the VH (Visually Handicapped) category of Persons with Disabilities (PwD) for the academic session 2026-27. The appointment is purely temporary and continues only till the end of the academic session 2026-27 or till the General Selection Committee is held, whichever comes first, and it can be terminated at any time without prior notice. Candidates with a strong academic background in Chinese language and literature, and belonging to the VH category, should apply. The Faculty of International Studies at AMU is known for teaching several foreign languages, and this position strengthens its Chinese language programme.

Who Can Apply?

You need to meet either of these two routes:

Eligibility Route A:

• A Master's Degree with at least 55% marks in Chinese from a recognised Indian university, or an equivalent degree from an accredited foreign university.
• You must have cleared UGC-NET (or CSIR/SLET/SET), or hold a Ph.D. awarded as per UGC regulations (2009 or 2016), which exempts you from NET/SLET/SET provided your Ph.D. was awarded in regular mode, evaluated by at least two external examiners, defended in an open viva-voce, and backed by at least two published research papers (one in a refereed journal) and two conference presentations from your Ph.D. work.

Eligibility Route B:

• Your Ph.D. degree was obtained from a foreign university ranked among the top 500 in the world (QS, THE, or Shanghai/ARWU rankings).

• Reservation: This post is reserved for the VH category — you need a minimum 40% disability to apply, along with a valid Disability Certificate on the prescribed Appendix-I proforma.
• PwD categories recognised by AMU: Blindness/low vision (VH), Deaf and hard of hearing (HH), Locomotor disability including cerebral palsy/leprosy cured/dwarfism/acid-attack victims/muscular dystrophy (OH), Autism/intellectual disability/specific learning disability/mental illness, and multiple disabilities including deaf-blindness. This particular post is reserved specifically for the VH sub-category.
• Relaxation: A 5% relaxation in qualifying marks is given to SC/ST/OBC (Non-Creamy Layer)/PwD candidates at both Bachelor's and Master's level, without any grace-mark procedure.
• Madarsa background: Certificates equivalent to High School or Graduation obtained from Madaris/Institutions recognised by the University will also be considered.

Application Fee

• General/Other candidates: Rs. 500 (non-refundable processing fee, paid online at the Careers Portal)
• PwD candidates: No fee — exempted on upload of a valid Disability Certificate

Selection Process (No Written Exam)

There is no written test. Selection is based on shortlisting and an interview:

1. Screening: AMU shortlists applicants based on qualifications and academic record — a reasonable number may be called, so meeting minimum eligibility does not guarantee an interview call. Meeting the prescribed qualifications is treated as the minimum requirement only.
2. Interview: Shortlisted candidates are interviewed on 22 August 2026, from 10:30 a.m., at the Chamber of the Dean, Faculty of International Studies, B-5 Shibli Road, AMU Aligarh.

No TA/DA will be paid for attending the interview. Only shortlisted candidates will be contacted — call letters are not sent to those who are not shortlisted, and the list of eligible candidates will be published on the Chairman's webpage after the offline submission deadline.

The University reserves the right to alter, insert, cancel, or amend the advertisement at any time, and the number or nature of posts may vary from the advertisement at the time of the interview. How to Apply

1. Go to the AMU careers portal at careers.amuonline.ac.in.
2. Fill in the online application form for Assistant Professor (Chinese) under the Department of Foreign Languages, using a separate form for this post.
3. Pay the Rs. 500 processing fee online (PwD candidates are exempted with a valid certificate).
4. Submit the form online before 9 August 2026, midnight, and take a printout of the PDF application on A-4 size paper.
5. Sign the printout, paste your photograph, and attach self-attested copies of your High School certificate, Graduation and Post-Graduation mark-sheets/degrees, NET/JRF/SLET/SET/CSIR certificate, M.Phil/Ph.D degree, and experience certificate (where applicable).
6. Send the complete printed application by post to the Office of the Chairman, Department of Foreign Languages, Faculty of International Studies, AMU, Aligarh-202002 by 16 August 2026, 4:00 PM, superscribing the post applied for and advertisement number and date on the top-left of the envelope.

Incomplete applications, those without the required self-attested documents, or those received late will be summarily rejected. Providing false information can make you ineligible for this and future recruitment at AMU.
