AMC Sahayak Sub Officer Recruitment 2026: Overview

Ahmedabad Municipal Corporation (AMC) is filling Sahayak Sub Officer posts in its Fire and Emergency Services Department under Advertisement No. 05/2026-27. This is a Class III field post in one of Gujarat's busiest city fire services, so you will be working on real fire calls, rescues and emergency turnouts across Ahmedabad. The advertisement was released alongside two senior fire-officer drives (Deputy Chief Officer and Chief Officer), which shows the city is strengthening its fire service at every level.

This drive is meant for working fire-brigade professionals, not fresh graduates. Along with a degree, you need the Sub Officers' Course from the National Fire Service College, Nagpur, solid experience at the rank of Leading Fireman, Jamadar (Tindel) or Driver-cum-Pump Operator, and a heavy vehicle licence that is at least three years old. If you already serve in a municipal, state or PSU fire brigade, this is a clear step up into a supervisory role.

Service Conditions and Caveats

• Fixed pay at the start: Selected candidates join as a fixed-pay "Sahayak" on probation for the first three years, as per AMC's fixed-pay policy for Class III and IV direct recruits. Moving to the regular pay matrix depends on a review of your work.
• Driving skills: You must know how to drive all types of vehicles, not just hold the heavy vehicle licence.
• Computer knowledge (CCC): You can apply without a computer certificate, but you must pass the CCC basic computer test before appointment, or within one year of joining.
• Language: You need adequate knowledge of Gujarati or Hindi or both.
• Reservation is for Gujarat origin only: SC, ST, SEBC and EWS benefits apply only to candidates of Gujarat origin. Caste certificates from other states will not get you a reserved seat or age relaxation.
• Women's reservation: AMC now applies 33% reservation for women. If no eligible woman is selected, the seat goes to a male candidate of the same category. Men and women can both apply.
• Disability seat: One post is set aside for a candidate who is Hard of Hearing (40% to 70%), adjusted within the category the candidate belongs to.
• Reserved candidates on open seats: If you belong to a reserved category but apply against an unreserved seat, you do not get age relaxation.
• Experience rules: Only experience earned after your qualifying degree counts. Part-time, daily-wage, apprentice, trainee, honorary and additional-charge work is not accepted, and an offer letter alone is not proof.
• Widow candidates: Widows who have not remarried get 5% extra marks, with an affidavit and certificate.
• Shortlisting: Depending on the number of applications, AMC may shortlist on merit and hold a written or online exam, trade test or interview. The Municipal Commissioner's decision is final.
• Government employees: Gujarat government and PSU staff can apply directly but must inform their office within 7 days. Central, other-state, local-body and co-operative staff need a No Objection Certificate at scrutiny.
• No travel allowance: You attend any test or interview at your own cost.

Applications are accepted only online through the AMC recruitment portal, where you click Apply against the Sahayak Sub Officer row. After submitting, you get your application number by SMS, so give a mobile number with DND switched off. The fee is paid online separately on the portal's Fees Payment page, and if a payment fails you should wait 3 hours before trying again.

You may apply only once for this post; if you submit more than one form, only the last confirmed application is kept and fees are not refunded. Details you fill in are final, so check them carefully. AMC will not send letters by post, so keep checking ahmedabadcity.gov.in for call letters, the OMR sheet and the answer key.
