AIIMS Patna Senior Resident Recruitment 2026: Overview

All India Institute of Medical Sciences, Patna (AIIMS Patna) is engaging Senior Residents through rolling walk-in interviews run by the Office of Dean (Academics). These are short-term, full-time residency appointments under the Government of India Residency Scheme, spread across clinical, surgical, diagnostic and pre-clinical departments. The appointment lasts for 89 days or until a regular incumbent joins, whichever happens first, and it does not create a claim to a regular post.

The notice gives doctors a choice across 16 medical specialties. You should select the department matching your postgraduate qualification; the institute may place a selected doctor in another unit when service needs require it.

Posts and Disciplines

• Anatomy: pre-clinical teaching, dissection support and academic work.
• Anaesthesiology, Pain Medicine and Critical Care: operating-theatre, pain and intensive-care services.
• Community and Family Medicine: preventive care, field health and community-based teaching.
• Dermatology: outpatient skin care and ward consultations.
• Forensic Medicine and Toxicology: medico-legal examinations, documentation and teaching.
• Orthopaedics: trauma, ward and operative care for musculoskeletal conditions.
• Ophthalmology: eye clinics, procedures and inpatient support.
• Obstetrics and Gynaecology: maternity, emergency and women’s health services.
• Pathology: diagnostic laboratory reporting and clinical correlation.

Post-wise Duties

Clinical Senior Residents

You will assess patients, plan care with faculty, manage ward and emergency work, and keep clear clinical records. Medicine, Paediatrics, Dermatology and Community Medicine residents also support bedside and classroom teaching.

Surgical Senior Residents

You will assist or perform procedures within your authorised role, supervise peri-operative care and respond to emergencies in General Surgery, Orthopaedics, Ophthalmology or Obstetrics and Gynaecology.

Diagnostic Senior Residents

You will review samples or images, prepare accurate reports and discuss urgent findings with treating teams in Pathology, Radiodiagnosis or Transfusion Medicine.

Academic and Pre-clinical Senior Residents

You will help conduct demonstrations, practical sessions, assessments and departmental academic work in Anatomy, Pharmacology or Forensic Medicine.

Critical Care and Oncology Senior Residents

You will support anaesthesia, intensive care, pain services or cancer treatment while following departmental safety protocols and documenting each intervention.

Service Conditions and Caveats

• Tenure: Continuation or renewal is possible only when the institute still needs the service, performance is satisfactory and the applicable residency rules permit it.
• Full-time service: Private practice is not allowed during the engagement.
• Residency ceiling: A doctor who has already completed the maximum permissible Senior Residency period cannot be appointed.
• Medical fitness: Joining is subject to fitness certified by the medical board authorised by AIIMS Patna.
• Travel: The institute will not pay TA or DA for attending the interview or joining.
• Updates: You should check the AIIMS Patna website for changes, addenda and department-wise seat status before attending.

Carry the completed prescribed form and your originals, with one self-attested photocopy set, to the Committee Room, Admin Building, AIIMS Patna. Registration and document checking take place during the stated reporting window, and late arrivals may not be allowed into the interview.
