TRAI Joint Advisor Kolkata Recruitment 2026: Overview

Telecom Regulatory Authority of India (TRAI), the statutory regulator for telecom and broadcasting services under the TRAI Act, 1997, is filling one post of Joint Advisor at its Regional Office in Kolkata on deputation on foreign service terms. The vacancy circular is No. 1-05/2026-HR dated 14 May 2026. It is open only to serving officers of the Central or State Governments, Union Territory administrations, autonomous bodies, statutory organisations, PSUs, recognised universities and recognised research institutions who hold an analogous post or carry the prescribed Level-12 or Group A service.

Service Conditions and Caveats

• Deputation tenure: The initial period of deputation is three years on foreign service terms under DoP&T OM No. 6/8/2009-Estt. (Pay II) dated 17 June 2010 and its later amendments.
• Premature repatriation: An officer who joins and then seeks repatriation before completing the tenure may be debarred from applying for TRAI vacancies for three years.
• Age ceiling: The maximum age of 56 years is reckoned on the last date of submission of applications and is not relaxed for deputation.
• Parent-department clearance: The application must travel through the proper channel with attested ACRs/APARs for the last five years, vigilance and disciplinary clearance and cadre clearance.
• No written test: TRAI screens applications on qualification, experience and service record and the Authority recommends the selection.

Send the envelope, superscribed with the post applied for, to the Senior Research Officer (HR), Telecom Regulatory Authority of India, World Trade Centre, 6th Floor, Tower-F, Nauroji Nagar, New Delhi - 110029 so that it reaches TRAI on or before 16 October 2026.

• Extensions: TRAI letters dated 25 June 2026, 16 July 2026 and 7 September 2026 extended the last date in turn.
• Extension Letter 4: TRAI letter No. 1-05/2026-HR dated 30 September 2026 extends the last date of submission/receipt of applications to 16 October 2026.

• Support TRAI's regulatory work for telecom and broadcasting services in the Eastern region from the Kolkata office
• Monitor service quality, tariff compliance and consumer protection issues for telecom operators in the region
• Collect and analyse market data, complaints and stakeholder feedback from the Eastern zone
• Prepare reports, consultation inputs and field observations for HQ New Delhi
• Coordinate with State Governments and field units of service providers on regulatory matters
• Represent TRAI Regional Office in meetings, consultations and outreach programmes
• Supervise research and analytical work carried out by junior officers in the regional office
