TIFR Multi-Post Recruitment 2026: Overview
Tata Institute of Fundamental Research (TIFR), an autonomous institute of the Department of Atomic Energy and a deemed university, is recruiting project staff for its Colaba campus in Mumbai. Advertisement 2026/23 brings together technical support, science communication, stores and office work, and event logistics in one drive. Each appointment is project-linked and temporary, so this recruitment suits you if you want practical experience inside a major research institute rather than a regular civil-service post.
The roles sit in very different parts of campus life. One supports air-conditioning systems, another turns advanced research into useful public material, two handle records and clerical work, and one coordinates day-to-day logistics. Read the post-wise conditions carefully because qualifications, duties, assessment methods and working arrangements differ even though every role belongs to the same advertisement.
Posts and Disciplines
- Project Laboratory Assistant B, Air Conditioning: hands-on technical support for cooling equipment and related campus services, with shift duty when required.
- Project Scientific Officer B: science communication, multimedia, web content and outreach work connecting TIFR research with students, researchers and the public.
- Project Clerk A, Stores and Records: inventory, documentation, storekeeping and digitisation support for institutional records.
- Project Clerk A, Office Support: correspondence, computer-based clerical work and data management for the assigned office.
- Project Work Assistant: event logistics and coordination with civic agencies for auditorium clearances, public lectures, conferences and official visits.
Post-wise Duties
Project Laboratory Assistant B
You will support air-conditioning maintenance and trade work, follow safe operating practices and respond to equipment needs during assigned shifts. The role is suited to a trained trade certificate holder who is comfortable with practical campus maintenance.
Project Scientific Officer B
You will help faculty, students and postdoctoral researchers create presentations, teaching material, graphics and animations. You will also organise digital resources, maintain an outward-facing portal, improve TIFR's video and social-media presence, and help prepare clear research summaries, reports and outreach material.
Project Clerk A
Depending on the assigned position, you will manage records, inventory, store documents, correspondence and computer-based office data. One clerk role has a clear stores focus, while the other values experience in government, PSU or autonomous-body offices and confidence with common office software.
Project Work Assistant
You will work with the public-relations and administrative teams on event permissions and on-site arrangements. The work includes coordinating with local civic, fire, telecom and police authorities and supporting conferences, public lectures, educational visits and VIP programmes.
Service Conditions and Caveats
- Tenure: The appointments are temporary and non-pensionable. They may be renewed annually, based on performance, up to a total engagement of three years; the project period does not create a claim to a regular TIFR post.
- Place of work: The posts are based at TIFR Colaba, Mumbai, though the institute may transfer appointees to another centre or field station when required.
- Working schedule: You may need to work shifts, weekends and public holidays according to campus needs.
- Reservation: The notified posts are unreserved, and candidates from reserved categories may also apply. Any relaxation depends on the applicable rules and valid certificates.
- Shortlisting: Meeting the minimum conditions does not guarantee a call. TIFR may shortlist using qualifications and experience above the stated minimum and may decide not to fill one or more posts.
- Travel support: Eligible outstation candidates called for the Project Scientific Officer process can claim the specified return rail fare after producing the required tickets.
Responsibilities
- Support technical, scientific, clerical, stores, or logistics work for the allotted project post
- Maintain accurate records, databases, equipment logs, or digital resources relevant to the role
- Prepare clear presentations, correspondence, reports, or event documents when assigned
- Coordinate with faculty, researchers, office teams, vendors, or public authorities as the work demands
- Follow campus safety, information-handling, and administrative procedures
- Manage practical tasks on schedule, including shift, weekend, or holiday work when required
- Report equipment issues, record gaps, approval delays, or operational risks promptly
- Keep tools, files, work areas, and shared resources organised and ready for use
