SVNIT Assistant Engineer Recruitment 2026: Overview

Sardar Vallabhbhai National Institute of Technology (SVNIT), Surat, an Institute of National Importance under the Ministry of Education, is hiring Assistant Engineers in Civil and Electrical for its campus estate work. These are purely contractual engagements, not regular posts, and you will be based at the institute's campus on Dumas Road in Surat. The work is hands-on campus maintenance and project supervision, so the notice suits engineers who have already handled site work, estimates and tenders.

Both first-class B.E./B.Tech. graduates and first-class diploma holders can apply in their own discipline. The desirable experience covers site supervision, bills, measurement books, tendering and working knowledge of CAD and discipline software, so fresh candidates can still apply, but experienced applicants will have an edge at the shortlisting stage.

Posts and Disciplines

• Assistant Engineer (Civil): looks after new civil construction and the upkeep of existing campus buildings and roads, including planning, design, estimating and tendering.
• Assistant Engineer (Electrical): runs site supervision of the central AC plant of the Administrative Building and the utility systems covered under the institute's maintenance contracts, along with procurement and record keeping.

Post-wise Duties

Assistant Engineer (Civil)

You will monitor civil works while they are being built and after, visit and supervise construction and maintenance sites across the campus, and prepare bid and tender documents for repair and maintenance jobs on the GeM and CPPP portals.

Assistant Engineer (Electrical)

You will act as the site engineer for the central air-conditioning plant, buy spare parts and maintenance material through the GeM portal, handle complaints and vendor quotations, and keep records of AMCs, lift licence renewals, expenditure and maintenance history. You will also coordinate preventive and breakdown maintenance for all utility systems under IMMC.

Service Conditions and Caveats

• Contract only: The engagement is purely contractual, and any claim for absorption into a regular institute post will not be entertained.
• Tenure: The first term is 11 months. Renewal and any increase in monthly pay depend on your performance, assessed by an institute-level committee.
• No extra benefits: You will not get medical facilities, accommodation or any other allowance on top of the consolidated pay.
• Working days: The office runs six days a week, with limited casual leave over the term. Unauthorised absence means a pro-rata pay cut, and you may be called in on holidays without extra pay.
• Termination: Either side can end the contract with 15 days' notice or 15 days' pay in lieu.
• Joining checks: Engagement is subject to medical fitness and police verification.
• Headquarters: Surat. The institute can move you to any section or department on campus.
• Age preference: The notice gives the age limit as a preference, not a strict cap; the closing date is the cut-off for age, qualification and experience.
