SMPK Deputy Chief Hydraulic Engineer Recruitment 2026: Overview

Syama Prasad Mookerjee Port, Kolkata (SMPK) is seeking a Deputy Chief Hydraulic Engineer for the Hydraulic Study Department of its Kolkata Dock System. This is a deputation appointment at Deputy Head of Department level, open through the service routes described in the recruitment rules. Service Conditions and Caveats

• Deputation period: The initial term is three years and may be extended by up to two more years. The terms link the deputation period to handing over charge in the parent organisation and returning to take up charge there.
• Appointment authority: The Central Government, through the Secretary responsible for Ports, Shipping and Waterways, acts as the appointing and disciplinary authority for this Deputy Head of Department post. The committee's recommendation goes to the ministry for approval before an appointment order is issued.
• Withdrawal after selection: A port official who withdraws after selection by the Service Selection Committee can be barred from future selection to Deputy Head of Department posts across major port authorities for two years.
• Leave administration: Your parent organisation's leave rules continue to apply. The Kolkata Dock System keeps the leave account using information supplied by that organisation and informs it when leave is sanctioned.
• Service contributions: The deputation terms explain how pension, National Pension System and provident-fund contributions pass between the port and the parent organisation. The arrangement depends on the scheme that already covers you.
• Early return: The port can return an officer to the parent organisation before the term ends. Normally it gives three months' advance notice to the officer and organisation, but the terms allow return without that notice in exceptional circumstances.
• Other conditions: Matters not covered in the deputation annexure follow the port's existing rules and orders. Any relaxation of the stated terms needs the port's prior concurrence or approval.
