NITW JRF Materials Engineering Recruitment 2026: Overview

National Institute of Technology Warangal (NITW) is engaging a Junior Research Fellow in its Department of Metallurgical and Materials Engineering for an ASM-SMST sponsored study. The project focuses on lightweight polycrystalline titanium-aluminium-chromium shape-memory alloys and examines how alloying choices and grain size affect their behaviour. This is a hands-on experimental materials project, so the role suits someone who wants to connect alloy design, processing, testing and microscopy rather than work only with simulations.

The research programme moves from making alloys to preparing specimens, measuring mechanical behaviour and interpreting microstructures. You will work with the principal investigator, Prof. R. Arockia Kumar, and help turn laboratory observations into technical reports, research papers and conference presentations. Experience with alloy casting, rolling or extrusion and tools such as SEM, TEM and XRD will make the laboratory learning curve easier, while a national-level research examination is preferred rather than compulsory.

Service Conditions and Caveats

• Project-linked tenure: The appointment is purely temporary and continues for a maximum of two years or until the sponsored project ends, whichever happens first.
• Research degree option: The selected fellow may seek Ph.D. registration at NIT Warangal under institute rules, but must apply separately when the institute opens Ph.D. admissions. The fellowship appointment itself does not guarantee admission.
• Laboratory and travel work: The assignment may involve visits within India when experiments, characterisation or testing need facilities outside the campus.
• Campus facilities: Hostel and mess access may be offered on campus, subject to availability and the institute's rules.
• Interview expense: NIT Warangal will not pay TA or DA for attending the interaction, including when a candidate is asked to appear in person.
