National Institute of Technology Durgapur (NIT Durgapur) is building a project team in its Department of Electrical Engineering in West Bengal. The Defence Research and Development Organisation (DRDO), through R&DE(E), Pune, funds work on an Electrical Impedance Tomography (EIT) prototype for detecting objects beneath soil. The recruitment combines research, technical assistance and office support for this project under Dr. Tushar Kanti Bera.

Posts and Disciplines

• Junior Research Fellow (JRF): The research position is attached to the EIT project in Electrical Engineering.
• Project Assistant: This is the project’s technical assistance position, connected to the same imaging and hardware development work.
• Office Staff: This is the office support position within the same project team.

Service Conditions and Caveats

• Project scope: The research uses changes in soil conductivity to study underground objects. Low-frequency alternating currents and boundary-potential measurements form the basis of the proposed imaging system.
• Simulation work: The project examines different soil properties, geometries, current frequencies, electrode arrangements, object shapes and burial depths. These are parts of the shared research plan, rather than separate recruitment notices.
• Development goals: The project includes an imaging-device prototype and software for reconstructing conductivity profiles. It will also explore Electrical Capacitance Tomography (ECT) as a non-contact approach to underground imaging.
• Tenure: Each engagement is for one year and is linked to the project, with satisfactory performance as a condition.
• Joining: If selected, you should be ready to join immediately after recruitment.
