Meghalaya HC Civil Judge Recruitment 2026: Overview

The High Court of Meghalaya has revised its recruitment for Civil Judge (Junior Division)-cum-Judicial Magistrate First Class in the Meghalaya Judicial Service. The amendment changes the route from selection to regular appointment by introducing a Trainee Judicial Officer designation. Service Conditions and Caveats

• Initial appointment: If selected, you will first be designated a Trainee Judicial Officer. The amendment distinguishes this training period from appointment to the regular judicial post.
• Academy training: You must complete one year of intensive training at the State Judicial Academy. This is compulsory under the revised arrangement.
• Structured clerkship: After academy training, you must complete a further year of law clerkship. The first six months are supervised by the concerned District and Sessions Judges or members of the State Higher Judicial Service.
• High Court placement: The remaining six months of clerkship take place under the supervision of a sitting High Court judge. Both parts belong to the structured clerkship required by the amendment.
• Evaluation before regular appointment: At the end of the clerkship, the supervising High Court judge prepares a reasoned report on your performance and suitability. Regular appointment depends on a satisfactory assessment.
• Existing applicants: If you already applied under the February advertisement, you do not need to apply again. The amendment expressly preserves that position for earlier applicants.
