Indian Institute of Technology Kanpur (IITK) is recruiting a Project Post-Doctoral Fellow in the Department of Materials Science and Engineering. The fellow will join the project titled Accelerated Development of Next Generation High Strength High Performance Steel, where laboratory melting, process data and material characterisation come together.

This is a research-intensive contractual role for someone who can work independently around steel processing experiments. A strong grasp of fluid flow, heat and mass transfer, materials thermodynamics and process kinetics will help you move from experimental planning to useful interpretation. Experience with an induction furnace and casting is especially relevant to the work described in the notice.

The appointment gives you direct exposure to experimental alloy development rather than a purely computational assignment. You will be expected to connect temperature measurements during melting with microscopic examination of the resulting samples, keeping the experimental trail clear enough for the project investigators to assess each run.

Service Conditions and Caveats

• Tenure: The first contract is for one year. It may continue after a satisfactory performance review, but it will end earlier if the project itself closes.
• Contract status: The position is purely contractual and does not create a claim to a regular IIT Kanpur appointment.
• Institute facilities: Other facilities will follow the rules that IIT Kanpur applies to project staff.
• Screening: Applicants who do not meet the essential academic requirements will not be called for the interview.
• Interview travel: No travel support is available for attending the interview.
• Project direction: The investigators may assign connected research tasks as the steel-development work progresses.
