Indian Institute of Technology Hyderabad Research Associate Recruitment 2026 - 1 Post

Indian Institute of Technology Hyderabad (IIT Hyderabad) issued this notice on 24 June 2026 for one Research Associate post under a Defence Research and Development Organisation (DRDO), Government of India, sponsored project. The project title is Indigenous Development of Large Scale (100 kg) Inert Gas Atomiser, sanctioned under DIA-COE IIT (BHU) Varanasi. The position is purely temporary and will end with the project.

The Research Associate will work with Prof. B. S. Murty, Department of Materials Science and Metallurgical Engineering, IIT Hyderabad. The appointment is initially for 1 year, but it can be extended up to 3 years or till the project ends, whichever is earlier. Extension depends on performance and project need.

Who Can Apply?

Essential Qualification

• PhD route: You need a PhD in Metallurgical Engineering, Materials Science and Engineering, Mechanical Engineering or Chemical Engineering.
• ME/MTech route: You need ME/MTech in one of the above branches with 3 years of research, design and development experience after ME/MTech.
• Project fit: Your background should connect with advanced materials, process development, design or research work.

Preferred Research Background

• Powder metallurgy: Research exposure in powder processing and related methods will help.
• Additive manufacturing: Experience with additive manufacturing or advanced manufacturing is useful.
• Gas atomization: Work connected with gas atomization is directly relevant to the project title.
• Materials characterization: Microstructural characterization, superalloys and advanced materials experience are preferred.
• Modelling and simulation: Research experience in modelling or simulation is also desirable.

Age Limit

• Maximum age: 35 years.
• Age relaxation: Relaxation is applicable for reserved category candidates as per Government rules.
• The notification does not mention a separate age-as-on date.

Salary

• RA-I salary: Rs. 58,000 per month for the first and second year.
• RA-II salary: The position can convert to RA-II with Rs. 61,000 per month in the third year.
• HRA: House Rent Allowance will be paid as per Government of India norms.

The confirmed starting pay is Rs. 58,000 per month. The higher third-year amount applies only if the project continues and the position is converted to RA-II based on the institute and project rules.

Selection Process (No Written Exam)

IIT Hyderabad will shortlist applicants based on qualification, experience and project fit. The notice does not mention any written exam for this Research Associate post.

2. Interview: Shortlisted candidates will be called for an interview, and the date will be shared by email.
3. Document verification: Original certificates must be shown at the time of interview for verification.
4. Joining: The selected person is expected to join within 1 month of selection.

No TA/DA will be paid for attending the interview. The PI may limit the number of candidates called for interview based on higher qualifications and experience.
