IIT Roorkee Research Associate Recruitment 2026: Overview

Indian Institute of Technology Roorkee (IIT Roorkee) is engaging Research Associates through its International Centre of Excellence for Dams and Department of Hydrology. The work belongs to a sponsored consultancy and research assignment led by Professor D. S. Arya, so this is a fixed-project role rather than a regular institute appointment. The assignment connects dam safety engineering with practical planning for ten dams managed by the Salinity Ingress Prevention Circle in Rajkot, Gujarat.

The project covers revised hydrology assessment, dam-break analysis, emergency action planning, hazard-potential review and preparation of operation and maintenance material. Your technical work will centre on hydrologic modelling and the study of possible dam-break scenarios, with outputs feeding into safety and emergency-planning documents. HEC-RAS and HEC-HMS modelling are central to the role, while GIS knowledge supports spatial analysis and presentation of results.

This opening is best suited to a civil-engineering graduate who has moved into water resources, hydrology or disaster management at postgraduate level. The notice gives preference to people who have already worked on dam-break studies, hydrologic models or emergency action plans. The research setting combines modelling, engineering judgement and report preparation, so you should be comfortable working with technical data as well as turning results into usable project documents.
