The Research & Development Unit at IIT Patna has released Advertisement No. R&D/1498/SIL/613 dated 20 July 2026 for 1 Junior Research Fellow post. The project, titled "Stirred Tank Leaching System for Selective Recovery of Rare Earth Elements from Spent NdFeB Permanent Magnets," is funded by the Anusandhan National Research Foundation (ANRF) under the Advanced Research Grant Program. The JRF may later be inducted into the PhD programme of the Department of Civil and Environmental Engineering, IIT Patna. The post is initially for 1 year, extendable up to 3 years based on your performance and project needs.

Who Can Apply?

For M.Tech/M.E. Candidates:

• You need an M.E./M.Tech in Civil Engineering, Environmental Engineering, Materials Science and Engineering, Metallurgical Engineering, Chemical Engineering, or Biotechnology (or an equivalent subject) with a minimum CPI of 6.5 or 60% marks.
• You must have a valid GATE score (not older than 5 years) or a NET qualification in the relevant discipline.

For M.Sc. Candidates:

• You need an M.Sc. in Environmental Science, Materials Science, Biotechnology, Microbiology, or Chemistry (or an equivalent subject) with a minimum CPI of 6.5 or 60% marks.
• You must have a valid GATE score (not older than 5 years) or a NET qualification in the relevant discipline.

• Relaxation: SC/ST candidates get a 5% marks or 0.5 CPI relaxation in the eligibility criteria.
• Final-year students awaiting results can also apply, provided they complete all degree requirements before joining.
• Preference will be given to candidates with research or work experience in metallurgical extraction and recovery of metals, a good publication record, and a strong commitment to pursuing a PhD.

Age Limit

• The upper age limit is 28 years for candidates with an M.Sc. as their highest qualification, and 32 years for candidates with an M.Tech./M.E. as their highest qualification, as on the last date of application.
• Age Relaxation: SC/ST/OBC/Women/PwD candidates get relaxation as per Government of India norms.

Salary

• You will get a consolidated fellowship of Rs. 37,000 per month plus HRA, as applicable.
• Your fellowship amount will be enhanced as per the funding agency's guidelines during the project.

Selection Process

The selection will be done in the following stages:

1. Shortlisting: Based on your application and supporting documents, you will be shortlisted and informed by email by 10 August 2026.
2. Written Test and Interview: Tentatively scheduled for 21 August 2026. You will need to make your own travel and accommodation arrangements — no TA/DA will be provided.
