IIT Delhi Psychologist and Counsellor Recruitment 2026: Overview

Indian Institute of Technology Delhi (IIT Delhi) is adding Clinical Psychologists and Student Counsellors to its established Student Counselling Services team. The work sits within IIT Delhi Hospital and supports the management and operation of mental-health services for the campus community. These are full-time contractual project appointments, designed to strengthen support for students and employees rather than create positions in the Institute's regular establishment. If your background is in adult or adolescent mental health, the role offers a campus-based clinical setting with a multidisciplinary counselling team.

Posts and Disciplines

  • Clinical Psychologist: a clinical role for psychology professionals with advanced clinical training, focused on mental-health assessment and intervention for students and other members of the IIT Delhi community.
  • Consultant (Student Counsellor): a counselling role focused on accessible day-to-day support, early identification of concerns and referral within the Institute's student-support system. The notice specifies male candidates for this role.

Post-wise Duties

Clinical Psychologist

You will assess mental-health concerns, plan suitable interventions and keep confidential clinical records. The work may involve individual support, crisis response, coordination with medical colleagues and referrals where a student needs specialised care. You should be comfortable working with young adults from varied academic and social backgrounds.

Consultant Student Counsellor

You will provide first-line counselling, help students manage academic and personal stress, and connect them with the right campus service when needed. The role also calls for clear spoken and written communication, careful follow-up and a calm approach when a student is distressed. You may help with awareness activities that make counselling easier to access.

Service Conditions and Caveats

  • Tenure: the initial engagement runs with the hospital project and may be extended, subject to need, satisfactory performance and the project's continuation.
  • Work commitment: you must work full time for IIT Delhi Hospital or the Counselling Cell and cannot take up another job or professional engagement alongside it.
  • Roster: duty is scheduled for 40 hours a week; controlling officers may assign separate shifts according to service needs and applicable labour rules.
  • Continuation: being interviewed or selected does not create a right to a permanent IIT Delhi post.
  • Joining: the project team prefers candidates who can join immediately, and the Institute may use higher shortlisting standards when applications are numerous.

Application Submission Notes

Use IIT Delhi's IRD REC-4 application form and provide complete marks, division details and work history before uploading it through the official Google Form. Incomplete forms can be rejected. Shortlisted applicants will receive the online interview information by email, and questions may be sent to recruitiitd@gmail.com.
