ICAR-IARI JRF SRF and Field Assistant Recruitment 2026: Overview

ICAR-Indian Agricultural Research Institute (ICAR-IARI) is forming a small project team in its Division of Fruits and Horticultural Technology at the Pusa Campus in New Delhi. The DBT-sponsored study examines the genetics behind pomegranate fruit size, quality and bacterial blight resistance through genome-wide association mapping. It is a practical research opportunity that links crop phenotyping, laboratory analysis and molecular breeding data.

The engagement is purely contractual and tied to the project. The research role is aimed at candidates with advanced plant-science or life-science training, while the field role supports reliable collection and analysis of fruit data. Both roles contribute to the same pomegranate improvement study, but their day-to-day work and academic entry routes differ.

Posts and Disciplines

• Junior Research Fellow/Senior Research Fellow: research support in horticulture, fruit science, genetics, plant breeding, plant molecular biology, biotechnology or life sciences, with work spanning molecular markers, phenotyping and analysis.
• Field Assistant: field and laboratory support for fruit observations, sample handling, biochemical analysis, data recording and spreadsheet-based compilation.

Post-wise Duties

Junior Research Fellow/Senior Research Fellow

You will support pomegranate phenotyping and molecular breeding research, organise morpho-chemical and molecular datasets, and help analyse results using suitable statistical and research software. Your project work may also include marker-assisted breeding activities, biochemical measurements, research records and technical outputs under the project team.

Field Assistant

You will collect and record fruit and field observations, help carry out fruit and biochemical analysis, and keep the project data organised in Microsoft Excel. Careful sample labelling and dependable field records are important because the research team will use this material for genetic association analysis.

Service Conditions and Caveats

• Initial tenure: the appointment starts for one year or the remaining project period, whichever is earlier, and may be extended yearly after satisfactory performance.
• Project link: the posts end with the scheme; selection does not give you a claim to a regular ICAR-IARI appointment or later re-engagement.
• Employer clearance: if you are already working, you need a No Objection Certificate from your current employer.
• Interview attendance: ICAR-IARI will not pay TA or DA, and only applicants meeting the essential qualification will be considered.
• Joining condition: selected candidates must provide a medical certificate when they join.
• Disclosure: any ICAR-IARI employee who is your near or distant relative must be declared in the prescribed form.

• Corrigendum dated 2 September 2026: the Field Assistant qualification was narrowed to a B.Sc or a three-year Engineering and Technology diploma; the earlier reference to any graduate degree was removed.
