HCS Judicial Service Entry Level Recruitment 2026: Overview

The High Court of Sikkim (HCS) is recruiting for the entry-level cadre of the Sikkim Judicial Service under the Sikkim Judicial Service Rules, 1975. This is entry into the state's judicial service, with appointments governed by the reservation roster set out in the notice. The recruitment combines open competition with reserved roster positions, so you need to read the reservation conditions that apply to your application.

Service Conditions and Caveats

  • Governing rules: The Sikkim Judicial Service Rules, 1975 govern this recruitment. The notice specifically makes the examination scheme under those rules part of the recruitment notice, so the rules and the notice need to be read together.
  • Reservation roster: Appointments follow Rule 5A of the service rules. The roster identifies open-competition positions and positions reserved for Bhutia and Lepcha applicants, Scheduled Tribe applicants, and persons with benchmark disabilities in the blindness and low-vision categories.
  • Separate community reservation: Bhutia and Lepcha applicants cannot claim the Scheduled Tribe roster position identified separately in this notice. The court explains that a separate roster position has already been earmarked for those communities.
  • Marriage-related conditions: The notice restricts appointment of a man who has more than one living wife and a woman married to a man who already has a living wife. It allows the Governor to grant an exemption when satisfied that special grounds exist.
  • Travel costs: The court will not pay travel or daily allowances for attending the recruitment assessments. You need to make your own arrangements if called to attend.
  • Application scrutiny: The Registry checks applications before accepting applicants for examination. It can accept or reject an application, and the notice says it does not have to provide a reason.
  • Acceptance notices: The court will place the list of accepted applicants on its website. Sending your form does not itself mean that your application has been accepted for examination.
  • Incomplete or late forms: Missing supporting material can lead to rejection. The Registry will not consider an application that arrives after the stated closing date and time.

Application Submission Notes

Address your application to the Registrar (Judicial Service), High Court of Sikkim, using speed post or delivery to the office during office hours. Postal applications must reach the office within the stated window; dispatch alone does not meet the receipt requirement.

Use the prescribed application form attached to the notice and complete it in your own handwriting in English. Leave the office-use roll-number spaces blank, and give a correct mobile number and email address so the Registry can contact you.

Responsibilities

  • Hear matters assigned within the court's jurisdiction
  • Examine pleadings, evidence and legal submissions
  • Apply relevant laws and judicial precedents to cases
  • Prepare clear orders and reasoned judgments
  • Manage hearings and case records in line with court procedure
  • Uphold judicial independence, impartiality and confidentiality
