Gujarat HC Librarian Recruitment 2026: Overview

The High Court of Gujarat is conducting direct recruitment for Librarian and Librarian cum Research Assistant posts in court establishments across Gujarat. These are regular Group C posts covering the District Judiciary as well as Industrial Courts and Labour Courts. A notable condition is that district preferences apply only to District Judiciary appointments, so your preferred district is not a guarantee of where you will work.

Posts and Disciplines

  • Librarian: This post belongs to District Judiciary establishments. The annexure identifies the district and family courts included in the recruitment, while the district-preference arrangement applies to this stream.
  • Librarian cum Research Assistant: This combined post belongs to Industrial Courts and Labour Courts. Appointment and posting are handled through the President of the Industrial Courts, Ahmedabad, according to the establishment's needs.

Service Conditions and Caveats

  • District preferences: For District Judiciary posts, you choose three districts in order of preference. The High Court determines a fourth district according to available places and merit. You cannot change your preferences later.
  • Posting flexibility: Your merit position and the available places affect the district allotted to you. If your preferred districts cannot be offered, you may be recommended for another district. The High Court retains its posting and transfer powers.
  • Separate establishment arrangements: District choices do not apply to Industrial Courts and Labour Courts. You must accept the establishment or district allotted by the President for that stream.
  • Order of appointments: The notice provides for filling District Judiciary posts before Industrial Courts and Labour Courts posts. Recommendations follow merit and the relevant establishment arrangements.
  • Refusing an appointment: If you decline the appointment offered, you lose your claim under that select list. The authority can then proceed with other candidates on the select or centralized waiting list.
  • Reservation conditions: Gujarat-origin conditions apply to reserved-category benefits. Applicants from categories without a reserved place may compete under the unreserved criteria. Horizontal provisions for women and persons with benchmark disabilities remain subject to the notice and applicable state rules.
  • Travel costs: You must meet your own travel expenses when attending the recruitment tests. The High Court decides the place and time of attendance.
  • Appointment is conditional: Success in the recruitment process alone does not create a right to appointment. The High Court must be satisfied with your suitability after the checks it considers necessary.
  • Waiting list: The select and centralized waiting lists remain valid until the advertised places are filled or for one year from publication, whichever comes first. A place on a list does not guarantee your preferred posting.
  • Official updates: Check the High Court and HC-OJAS websites and alerts sent to your registered mobile number. The notice asks applicants to avoid calling or visiting the Registry for general recruitment queries.
