The Commissionerate of State Tax (CST), Government of Gujarat, is preparing a selection list for contractual Legal Officers supporting the Goods and Services Tax (GST) Appellate Tribunal. The engagement sits within the State Tax Department and includes work at its divisional offices and Ahmedabad headquarters. Office-based legal service is a central part of the arrangement: you must follow the working hours fixed for comparable officers and remain available when government work needs your attention.

Service Conditions and Caveats

• Contract period: The appointment runs for 11 months from joining, or up to the sanctioned duration of the post. Depending on need and the rules then in force, the department may extend it for up to two further terms of 11 months each.
• Renewal conditions: The notice links timely renewal orders to a clean conduct record, no allegations of financial misuse, continuation of the relevant scheme and no voluntary resignation. Where these conditions apply, it calls for extension orders within 15 days after the current term ends.
• Ending the contract: Either you or the appointing authority can end the engagement by giving one month's notice. This notice clause applies to both sides of the appointment.
• Service bond: You must provide a bond equal to three times the consolidated pay. Read this commitment carefully before accepting the appointment. It forms part of the contract conditions attached to the post.
• Duty station: The department can assign you to an office within its 12 divisions or Ahmedabad headquarters. You must live at your duty station and get permission from the authorised officer before leaving headquarters.

• Conduct: The Gujarat Civil Services Conduct Rules, 1971 apply. A breach can bring the contract to an end under the termination provision stated in the notice.
• Leave: You receive 11 days of casual leave during the 11-month contract. The notice does not provide another leave category for this engagement.
• Joining: Report for duty within seven days of receiving the appointment letter. If you do not join within that period, the department will treat the appointment as unaccepted and proceed accordingly.
• Confidentiality: Keep information you learn through the tax department private. You must not disclose or make public departmental information that comes to your attention during the contract.
