DIC General Manager Safe and Trusted AI Recruitment 2026: Overview

Digital India Corporation (DIC) is hiring a General Manager for the Safe & Trusted AI pillar in its IndiaAI Division, under the Ministry of Electronics and Information Technology. This contractual leadership role in New Delhi sits within a national mission covering computing access, data quality, Indian artificial intelligence capabilities, industry collaboration, startup support and responsible technology use. Its notable focus is turning AI governance priorities into programmes that can be delivered, including support for the India AI Safety Institute and work with research organisations, industry and government. The wider mission is organised around seven pillars.

Service Conditions and Caveats

  • Project appointment: IndiaAI offers this position on a contract and consolidated-pay basis. The advertisement describes it as temporary project employment, so you should assess the opportunity using the project terms stated in the notice.
  • No permanent service claim: Appointment under this advertisement does not create a right to permanent employment at IndiaAI. It also gives you no claim to another existing vacancy or a position advertised by IndiaAI in the future.
  • Initial posting: Your posting is New Delhi. IndiaAI may transfer you to its project locations under its existing policy, which means the named initial work location comes with a stated transfer condition.
  • Reporting relationship: The notice places the role under the Chief Operating Officer, Director or Joint Director of the IndiaAI Mission. The position connects the Safe & Trusted AI pillar with Mission leadership and the bodies overseeing its programmes.
  • Programme setting: The pillar brings together AI safety, governance and programme delivery. Its work spans research institutions, businesses, civil society and international counterparts, with links to regulatory and standard-setting bodies. You would join a role operating across these institutional relationships.
  • Team setting: The position works with an internal team and external consultants or experts contributing to the pillar. The notice describes an evolving Mission environment with several priorities running at the same time, alongside expectations for programme quality, timelines and reporting.
  • Recruitment discretion: IndiaAI keeps the option of filling the advertised position or leaving it unfilled. It can also decide not to appoint any applicant considered through this exercise and need not give a reason for that decision.
  • Termination provision: IndiaAI may end the appointment by giving one month of notice. It may instead pay one month of salary in place of notice and end the appointment without serving that notice period.

Responsibilities

  • Lead plans and budgets for the Safe and Trusted AI pillar.
  • Develop programmes for AI safety, bias reduction, explainability and risk assessment.
  • Support the institutional setup and technical capacity of the India AI Safety Institute.
  • Oversee AI model safety evaluations, grants and research challenges.
  • Build partnerships with researchers, industry, civil society and international bodies.
  • Coordinate AI governance work with regulators and standards organisations.
  • Manage programme teams and prepare reports for Mission leadership.
