DGLL Technician Diesel Recruitment 2026: Overview

Directorate General of Lighthouses and Lightships (DGLL), under the Ministry of Ports, Shipping and Waterways, is recruiting a Technician (Diesel) for its Chennai directorate. This is a Group C technical role in the lighthouse service, where reliable power equipment is essential to navigational aids and station operations. The posting can extend beyond Chennai to lighthouse stations across India, including remote mainland, island and coastal locations, so the job suits someone comfortable with practical maintenance work and transfer liability.

The technician's core work centres on diesel generator sets, air compressors and battery chargers. You may be expected to inspect equipment, trace operating faults, support overhauls and keep essential backup systems ready at stations where outside technical support is not close at hand. Hands-on workshop or government-establishment experience is central to the role, whether you qualify through the apprenticeship route or through a Mechanical Engineering diploma.

Service Conditions and Caveats

  • Service classification: the post is in General Central Service, Group C, non-gazetted and non-ministerial.
  • Reservation: the notified post is earmarked for the EWS category; the administration may revise its vacancy requirement.
  • Mobility: selected candidates may serve at the directorate or any lighthouse station and can be transferred anywhere in India, including Andaman and Nicobar Islands and Lakshadweep.
  • Application handwriting: the prescribed form must be completed by you in blue or black ballpoint pen. Block-style or inconsistent signatures can lead to rejection.
  • Photograph standard: use a recent colour photograph with a clear face and shoulder view, and include the additional matching photograph requested in the notice.
  • One application: sending more than one form for the same post will lead to rejection.
  • Communication: the written-exam date and centre will be sent by post, and DGLL advises you to monitor its website for updates.
  • Travel and delivery: the directorate does not accept responsibility for postal delay or loss, so allow enough delivery time.

Application Submission Notes

Send the completed prescribed form and supporting enclosures by speed post or registered post to The Director, Directorate of Lighthouses and Lightships, Deep Bhavan, 5/20 Jaffar Syrang Street, Chennai 600001. Write "Application for the post of Technician (Diesel), Advt. No. 05/2026" clearly on the envelope.

Use good-quality A4 paper on one side only, write the requested personal details legibly in English capital letters, and make sure every required place carries the same running-hand signature. The form, photographs and self-attested evidence should be firmly arranged in the order stated in the notice. Final-exam result-awaiting applicants should not apply because the qualification must already be complete by the closing date.
