CoPA Marine Services Officers Recruitment 2026: Overview

Cochin Port Authority (CoPA) is engaging marine services officers for functional supervisory work in its Marine Department at Cochin, Kerala. The notice brings assistant, deputy and marine services officer roles together under a shared contract arrangement. The engagement does not create a claim to regular appointment, so consider the service conditions alongside the role that matches your background.

Posts and Disciplines

  • Assistant Marine Services Officer (AMSO): The assistant-level supervisory post in this Marine Department engagement. The notice uses the AMSO designation to distinguish it from the deputy and officer-level positions.
  • Deputy Marine Services Officer (DMSO): The deputy-level role within the same functional supervisory group. Compare its separate service-background requirements before choosing it in the recruitment.
  • Marine Services Officer (MSO): The officer-level post in the group. This position has its own routes for recognising previous marine supervisory service, as set out in the post-specific requirements.

Service Conditions and Caveats

  • Tenure: The initial contract lasts three years. A further two-year extension may be offered, depending on your performance and CoPA's requirements; an extension is not automatic.
  • Working arrangements: Your working days and hours follow those of regular employees or officers. Urgent operational needs may mean staying beyond normal hours, so you should be prepared for that condition.
  • Headquarters: You need prior permission before leaving headquarters. The notice makes this a condition of the contract, alongside your normal attendance and duty commitments.
  • Exclusive assignment: You cannot take up another assignment while engaged by the port. Consider this restriction if you already hold a separate professional or contractual commitment.
  • Leaving the contract: Give three months' advance notice if you wish to leave. Leaving without notice, or without its acceptance, results in forfeiture of the consolidated pay due to you.
  • Termination: CoPA keeps the right to end the contract without notice for misconduct or otherwise. Read this condition together with the notice period that applies when you choose to leave.
  • Employment status: The contract gives no right to regular appointment or to claim the same rights as regular port employees, including employees doing similar work.
  • Conduct and property: You must act with integrity and remain committed to your duties. Misconduct or loss to port property attributable to you can lead to penal action.
  • Recruitment discretion: The announced openings are tentative, and CoPA can reduce them, increase them or decide not to engage anyone. Applying does not itself give you a right to engagement.
  • Communication: Individual recruitment messages go to your registered email address. Check the port's website for updates too; enquiries can be sent to copa.career@cochinport.gov.in during office hours.
  • Employer approval: Serving staff of government, semi-government, autonomous or central public sector bodies should get their competent authority's approval before applying. Incorrect declarations or hidden material facts can lead to rejection or termination after engagement.

Responsibilities

  • Supervise assigned marine operations within the port.
  • Coordinate operational tasks with marine staff and supervisors.
  • Guide teams on safe working practices during marine duties.
  • Keep clear records of assigned work and operational issues.
  • Report service interruptions and safety concerns to senior officers.
  • Support duty handovers and respond to urgent operational needs.
