CIHTS Faculty Recruitment 2026: Overview

Central Institute of Higher Tibetan Studies (CIHTS), under the Ministry of Culture, is recruiting Professor, Associate Professor and Assistant Professor faculty at its Sarnath campus in Varanasi. The drive spans classical languages, Buddhist philosophy, Sowa-Rigpa, teacher education, traditional arts and specialist text work. Posts and Disciplines

• Professor: senior academic roles cover Sanskrit, Mool Shastra in Tibetan and Sanskrit media, Sowa-Rigpa, Bhot Jyotish, Tibetan traditional painting, rare Buddhist text research and dictionary work.

Post-wise Duties

Professor and BRA Research Professor

You will provide academic leadership, guide doctoral and advanced research, shape the department's teaching plan and contribute substantial scholarly work. In the specialist research units, you may also lead editing, translation, preservation or interpretation of Tibetan and Sanskrit materials.

Associate Professor

You will teach advanced courses, supervise student research and help coordinate department-level academic work. Subject-specific roles also expect you to build publications, support curriculum development and mentor less-experienced faculty.

Assistant Professor

You will handle classroom teaching, assessment and student guidance in your chosen discipline while developing an active research profile. Teacher-education posts add pedagogy and practice-based preparation, while language, art and traditional-knowledge posts need discipline-specific teaching methods.

Service Conditions and Caveats

• Role-specific standards: UGC, NCTE, NCISM or CIHTS recruitment rules apply depending on the post, so one qualification pattern does not cover every discipline.
• BRA tenure: the BRA Research Professor appointment is for a five-year tenure, unlike the regular faculty posts included in the same notice.
• Sowa-Rigpa registration: applicants for the medical-system posts need valid registration with the relevant State, Central or National authority wherever applicable.
• Shortlisting: meeting the minimum academic standard does not guarantee an interview; CIHTS may screen applications and limit the call list.
• Reservation: some discipline-level positions include backlog status, and suitable benchmark-disability applicants may be appointed against the horizontal reservation provided in the notice.
• Travel: you must attend any interview or written assessment at your own expense.
