NII Project Scientist GANANA Recruitment 2026: Overview
National Institute of Immunology (NII) is hiring Project Scientist-I and Project Scientist-II for GANANA, an India-European Union initiative on scientific high-performance computing funded by the Ministry of Electronics and Information Technology. The team will use computation to study immune complexes and support the development of AI-based antigen-binding prediction. This is a project appointment for researchers who are comfortable moving between biology, data and large computing systems.
The work is based in a multidisciplinary setting under Dr. Narendra Kumar. You may handle protein structures, biological sequences and machine-learning models in the same project, so the strongest applications will show both life-science understanding and reproducible computing practice. Experience with tools such as AlphaFold, Rosetta, TensorFlow, PyTorch or Scikit-learn is useful, while exposure to Git and collaborative development can help you contribute smoothly to the wider India-EU team.
Posts and Disciplines
- Project Scientist-I: An entry-level project-scientist role supporting bioinformatics, computational structural biology and AI or machine-learning work in immunology.
- Project Scientist-II: A more experienced role in the same technical stream, suited to someone who has already worked in research and development within industry, an academic institution or a science and technology organisation.
Post-wise Duties
Project Scientist-I
You will help build and analyse sequence-structure datasets, run structural and sequence studies of immune complexes, and support model development. Your work can include protein modelling, molecular simulation, docking workflows and the careful documentation of computational results.
Project Scientist-II
You will take on broader responsibility for developing, training and benchmarking AI/ML models for antigen-binding prediction. You may also coordinate technical work across collaborators, use HPC or GPU resources for larger runs, and help turn the analysis into project reports and agreed deliverables.
Service Conditions and Caveats
- Project appointment: Each appointment is contractual for one year or the remaining project duration, whichever is shorter at a time. Continuation depends on the sponsored project and the applicable institute or funding-agency rules.
- Accommodation: NII will not provide hostel or housing facilities, so you should arrange your own stay in Delhi.
- Interview arrangements: Interviews may take place online or offline. No travel or daily allowance will be paid if you attend in person.
- Collaborative work: The project involves national and international partners, making clear communication, version control and well-organised technical documentation important parts of the role.
- Category claim: Applicants claiming SC, ST, OBC or PH status should state it clearly and provide documentary proof.
- Scrutiny: Incomplete information will not be considered, and canvassing can disqualify an application.
Application Submission Notes
Email the prescribed application format and your complete CV to imil@nii.ac.in, clearly identifying the GANANA project and the Project Scientist level you are applying for. Include your experimental or computational expertise, publication list, working contact details and the names of three referees.
Shortlisted applicants must provide attested copies of their certificates when instructed for the interview. The prescribed format also asks about your academic history, past experience, current employment and any national-level examination qualification, so complete every item clearly and state examination passing dates.
