APHC District Judge Entry Level Recruitment 2026: Overview

The High Court of Andhra Pradesh (APHC) is conducting direct recruitment for District Judge (Entry Level) in the Andhra Pradesh State Judicial Service. The General Administration Department issued the notification for the direct-recruitment quota under the state's judicial service framework. This is a regular judicial-service recruitment governed by the Andhra Pradesh State Judicial (Service and Cadre) Rules, 2026.

Service Conditions and Caveats

  • Applicable rules: The state judicial service rules govern the recruitment. The High Court will decide any necessary procedural matter that those rules do not cover.
  • Reservation framework: Vertical reservation follows the notified state categories. Horizontal reservation for women and persons with benchmark disabilities follows the applicable state service rules. Check the category that applies to your own claim rather than assuming a central category certificate will be accepted.
  • BC-E condition: Selection against the BC-E vacancy depends on the outcome of the pending Supreme Court civil appeals identified in the notification. This condition remains attached to that reserved category.
  • Open competition: If you do not wish to claim reservation, the notice lets you opt for open competition. Unsupported BC non-creamy-layer or EWS claims are considered under open competition as described in the notification.
  • Recruitment changes: The High Court can change the advertised requirement or cancel the notice at any point. Publication of the notification itself does not create a right to appointment.
  • Provisional selection: Selection remains subject to checks of your background. Concealing material facts or giving false information can lead to rejection even after selection, along with legal consequences.
  • Travel costs: No travel or daily allowance is payable for attending the screening test, written examination or viva voce. Plan your travel at your own expense.
  • Further communication: Keep checking the High Court website throughout the recruitment. The notice directs applicants to follow its updates and results until the process finishes.

Write the notice's required superscription on the envelope: Application for appointment to the post of District Judge (Entry Level) in the A.P. State Judicial Service under Direct Recruitment. Exam Pattern

Screening Test

If held, the computer-based screening test has 100 multiple-choice questions for 100 marks, with 2 hours to answer. You need at least 40% to enter shortlisting in a 1:10 vacancy ratio; all applicants tied at the relevant cut-off are included. Screening marks do not count towards final merit. The decision to hold it depends on application numbers.

Written Papers

  • Paper I, Constitution and Civil Law: 100 marks, 3 hours. Topics include constitutional and administrative law, civil procedure, evidence, property, contracts, family law, land and tenancy laws, torts, limitation, intellectual property, registration, stamps, sale of goods and trusts.
  • Paper II, Criminal Law: 100 marks, 3 hours. Topics include criminal procedure, evidence, IPC, BNS, BNSS, BSA and the special criminal laws listed in the notification, including corruption, NDPS, SC/ST protection, juvenile justice and Andhra Pradesh excise, prohibition and forest laws.
  • Paper III, English: 100 marks, 3 hours. Translation between English and Telugu carries 40 marks; legal essay writing carries 60 marks. You must get 40% in each part. This paper is qualifying and is excluded from viva-eligibility merit and final selection marks.

Write your answers in English, except the translation component. Negative marking is not specified in the notice.

Qualifying Marks and Viva Voce

  • OC/EWS: At least 55% in each of Papers I and II and 60% aggregate.
  • BC: At least 50% in each of Papers I and II and 55% aggregate.
  • SC/ST/PwBD: At least 45% in each of Papers I and II and 50% aggregate.

The viva voce carries 50 marks. Shortlisting is in a 1:3 vacancy ratio, including all tied applicants. Your final score uses Papers I and II plus viva voce; the minimum combined aggregate is 60% for OC/EWS, 55% for BC and 50% for SC/ST/PwBD. Absence from viva voce disqualifies you. Final ties are resolved by greater age, then higher qualification, then higher marks in the prescribed qualification.
